Just a nobody...

A reader sent an email with a neat tagline I thought I'd highlight.

I'm just a nobody telling anybody about some body who can save EVERY body.

This of course refers to John 3:16-17:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

(Okay Quedula, feel free to snark.)

  1. HAH! Do you honestly think she needs encouragement? That's like encouraging a Great White to take the bait. (Totally unnecessary, it's instinctual.)

  2. Please excuse me, I didn't mean to ignore the entire point of this topic. Yes, it's a very clever tagline.

  3. It's still amazing no matter how often I think about it.

There are plenty of references in the Bible indicating that side-show preachers, gurus and swamis were a dime a dozen.

So here comes one more: a dirt poor carpenter/laborer of questionable lineage spouting yet another path to redemption.

Love your enemies? Render unto Ceasar?

    What a nut job, right?

Well - 2000+ years later, nobody knows the names of those other schmoes, but I do know of Jesus Christ.

Just another podunk cultist they just happened to create a new calendar for...

  4. It is amazing Mr. Davis. The Lord of hosts. The beginning and the end. What is mankind that he should care about us? I'll bet you that there are scores of millions of angels (both fallen and in good standing) who are wondering and waiting for the answer even now. This is going to be AMAZING!

  6. I was watching a YouTube video yesterday of Francis Chan (I think it's Chan), anyway, he created a word picture that I really loved. He talked about God magnificence, His power, His soveriegnty, but then in the word picture he put it together.

"So, here's this powerful being, this God of ours, reigning over all things. Filling the sky with his majesty, clouds swirly around him and lightening flashing behind Him. He is most definitely in charge of it all. You don't doubt it for a moment. And then this God, this enormous power and presence, turns His face in my direction, and sends His son to die so that He can love me more."

The thing I so love about Him is that even with all this power, with the enormous fear that it could engender, He holds me gently in His Hand.
