We can't forget the brave men and women who have served our country.
Nor will we forget the ones who won't be coming back.
Thank you to our veterans.
It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
For an amazing photo tour of Ardennes American Cemetery in Liege, Belgium, where Don's uncle is buried, see this post.

Thank you, Patrice!
ReplyDeleteSo many Veterans in the family at one time. All have passed on. What I would do today, to ask for their stories.
The now viral news piece in UK about the 100 year old saying the sacrifice wasn't worth it and the freedoms they fought for, we have given away...heartbreaking. They gave up so much, what we all take for granted.
Thank you for the link about Don's uncle. Very powerful.
Thank Younger Daughter for us also please.
ReplyDeleteOld-Fart here
ReplyDeletePatrice:
Thank you for posting this.
So many of this Great Country have forgotten our “true” past and persist on giving up what so many have fought, struggled, and died for us all to live in freedom.
The sacrifices of so many that have given “The Last Full Measure”, and yes those that have survived, yet lost so much trying to “make it” in a country that seems to shame those that have given us all so much.
Yes, “Thank a Veteran Today” and then also thank the families that have suffered from their losses, suffering, and their services to us all.
I know not a single Veteran that has not “changed” from their time in service. Some for the better, some full on “Broken”.
I could go on and on, but this is not the place nor the time.
“Thank you, Veterans, each and every one”.
My dad was a veteran, a Marine, who served in combat. When my brother was born, my dad said that if Vietnam was still going on when he turned 18, they'd send him to Canada. And when my son mooted joining the service, my dad told him to drop that idea immediately.
ReplyDeleteNot even worth the time typing a reply
DeleteHonor his service.
DeleteQuestion and forgive what he taught his family. Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Obviously!
Soldiers didn't give women the right to vote.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA, your exactly right, here in the US Soldiers do offer and maintain your "Freedom" to have the opportunity to Vote.
DeleteMy ohhhh My why do we even try? Ya just can't fix a Troll looking for an argument.
True, but you can forgive her.
DeleteLMK how soldiers serving in Vietnam (or Iraq etc) protected my right to vote. Was Vietnam or Iraq planning to invade and abolish the right to vote? Of course not. It was a wasted loss of life on our end. And that's what my father objected to.
DeleteAlso LMK how many of you actually saw combat, or if you're chickenhawks like President Bone Spurs. Don't condescend to my father--he wouldn't have taken gibes from ignorant country yahoos.
DeleteSo much could be said, but it isn't worth it. You are the epitome of why this country has no unity.
DeleteYou remind me of those funny little spiders that run out when you jiggle their web.
DEI and TDS. No surprise.
