If you lived in our neck of the woods, you might have found a mysterious bag on your doorstep this past week, a gift from the Magic Pear Fairy.
Yes, the Magic Pear Fairy has stuck again. Each fall, she polishes her magic wand, flexes her sparkly wings, and flits around from house to house, bestowing the blessings of pears on any unsuspecting mortal she can catch.
This is a very necessary yearly ritual because let me tell you, pear trees produce abundantly.
Here's the Pear Fairy's assistant, plucking from the upper branches.
Estimated weight: 100 lbs.
When the day came to distribute the pears, the hay sled came in handy to handle the load.
The pears landed anonymously on multiple doorsteps.
Others, the Pear Fairy was able to visit in person. Altogether seven neighbors (and one friend in town) were blessed with pears. When the Pear Fairy returned home, nothing was left but a few rotten specimens that went to the chickens.
The Magic Pear Fairy struck again!
You should try making perry some time--like hard cider but with pears. It's delicious.
ReplyDeleteIndeed -- she should let the pear cider slightly ferment and mix it with sparkling water.
DeleteI seriously doubt in Idaho there are many who have heard of Whiteway's Peardrax, but you might get some people hooked on an old Devon drink that's still popular in the Caribbean ...
"It was especially popular among some British children during the 1960s and 1970s ..." *hiyoo!* :-)
Boy, I wish I lived near the Pear Fairy! What a kind hearted, caring Fairy she is!
ReplyDelete100lbs is a lot of pears. How many trees do you have producing and how old are they?
ReplyDeleteJust one tree, about 12 year old. We have a second tree from which we got a few pears, but sadly it looks like it's dying. We'll see if it revives next spring.

Nice pears. Do you know what the variety is ? I have had no luck growing pears here in the U.P. and maybe that variety would work here. Thanks, ken
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't remember what kind we planted. A more knowledgeable neighbor (who received some pears) thinks they might be Green Anjou.

I really love pears. However, if the cheeseburger fairy starts showing up I will provide my address.
ReplyDeleteHuggs..
Another things you can do with them is make pear sauce - my neighbor has an old tree with small ugly pears that make a sweet sauce; I didn't add anything do it, just boiled the pears and then processed them. I pressure canned them and it came out well.
ReplyDeleteOur pear tree also produced a bumper crop. My daughter made me a pear pie, I don't think I'll ever eat an apple one again.
ReplyDeleteDo you think she's the sister or cousin of the zucchini Fairy? She was been around here earlier this year. &:}
ReplyDeletePear jalapeno relish!
