Darn those sunbeams

Caught in a sunbeam ... can't ... move ...

  1. The Pyrenees dogs I know (and our half-Pyrenees) are nocturnal, and spend the night barking. Does Lydia do that, or is that the sort of thing you can break a dog out of?

    1. Since she spends the night indoors, we don't have this issue. For what it's worth, I don't know if you can "break" a barking dog from barking without a great deal of cruelty involved. Pyrs bark because they're bred as guard dogs, and barking is their first line of defense. "Breaking" a pyr from barking is like "breaking" a horse from running: it would essentially take away their purpose and livelihood. Better to modify the situation, i.e. keep the dog indoors at night.

  2. I figured that was the case, and I agree, if you want a non-barking dog, get one that's not bred as a guard dog. Ours lives outside, and barks melodiously all night long. It's a beautiful thing.
