Let's abolish money

I recently read a comment on WND that made me blink in astonishment. It read as follows:
____________________________________

There are only good people in the world. There are no evil people. We are all born inherently good. Good people do bad things when they are negatively impacted by some aspect of society.

Even Adolf Hitler was a good person! He turned bad when he was poisoned by the power that was given to him by his people.

I have met some really nice people of varying religious affiliations. I have absolutely no problem with any of them as long as they keep their religious beliefs private - and out of government, especially legislation that can impact my life.

What are you going to do? Get your gods to stop gun violence? Two hands working accomplish more than two hands clasped in prayer.

I have a lot of faith in humanity. I believe we will adapt to and overcome all our problems (without gods). There are only good people in the world. There are no bad people. We must improve the quality of life for all people. We are the human collective - brothers and sisters of humanity MUST unite and take care of each other. With love for one another, we can put an end to the quality of life issues that force people to do bad things.

You seem to think that we should just give up on attempting to stop gun violence, because you think it is inevitable due to the existence of 'evil'...

You are wrong. But we must go beyond simple gun legislation.

The only way to stop this is by improving the quality of life for all people. We must do all that we can to evenly distribute resources among all humans, so that the quality of life is very good for all. People should not be subjugated to the 'paid' slavery of Corporations. Some say that people would be unmotivated in such a world - but that is a lie. If you found something that you were very good at doing, and the rest of the world supported your efforts - you would self-actualize and be self-motivated by something beyond money. If we did that for ourselves... this world would be much better off.

Money needs to be abolished - the concept of 'wealth' should be nonexistent. As a civilization, we will only succeed if we join together and share our resources.
We must adapt.

With things the way they are, the world is split up into "Corporate Empires" that enslave the masses. The leaders of those "Empires" sit on all the world's bread as they sprinkle crumbs to the ones they enslave. It is time for that to end.

____________________________________

Tell me, who is “self-actualized” and “self-motivated” to clean the toilets or mop the floors in this mythical money-free world this person advocates? Without the motivation of money, I’m afraid these unpleasant but very necessary jobs wouldn’t get done.

Putting aside his views on religion and history, what I found remarkable are the words I put in bold. Considering that wealth in one form or another has existed for ALL of recorded human history, it seems naive and simplistic to think that abolishing money will cure all the ills in the world, or that no one would ever re-emerge wealthy.

Frankly when someone says "Wealth should be nonexistent" and "all resources should be evenly distributed," I believe that to be code-talk for "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine."

Absolute pure barter doesn’t work because if I want the shoes you make and you don’t want the cheese I make, then we’re out of luck for any bartering transaction. Money is merely a neutral bartering item to make an exchange easier.

Money is also the tangible value of time. If I work and receive money for that work, it is merely compensation for the time I spent working. But redistributing wealth is akin to slavery because it steals my time and compensates someone else for time they didn't work.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not suggesting it's moral or ethical to exploit poor people. That's not my point at all. My point is that by employing forcible wealth redistribution (because the only way wealth can be redistributed is by force) and "abolishing money," you'll do nothing more than make a lot of hard-working people lose interest in working at all. And remember, only a government entity is capable of forcing this kind of distribution.

But hey, if this person wants to try and abolish money and live in universal harmony and mystic crystal revelations, then I wish him well… as long as he doesn’t try to pass legislation to impose his will by force.

  1. The quote starts right off with an assertion which is patently false.

    People are NOT good.

    Romans 3:23 says it all.

Cain Killed Able out of envy.

Envy and sloth drive well over half of all crime.

    We are not good.

When the left gets over that they will discover why government exists - to limit the worst of human behavior. To limit the damage. To protect Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Money is a tangible measure of the value I manage to construct when I have the liberty to use my life as I deem best.

  2. What brand of "koolaid" has this person been drinking? You are absolutely right in your comments. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work you do.

Take a bath hippie! (and get a job)

  6. Yeah. I'm definitely going to take advice from someone who believes that even Hitler was a good person until he got power. (Dude! Read Mein Kampf! The evil is all in there to be seen! And he wrote that from PRISON! Where he went for TRYING TO STAGE A NAZI COUP D'ETAT, so don't bother blaming prison for it, either!)

Violence isn't just older than guns, it's older than humanity. Violence is all over nature. The only difference guns make is that they enable those who don't spend their whole lives studying and practicing violence to resist threats of death or slavery made by those who do.

You want to eradicate all violence? Well, that's a nice dream, I suppose, but not something that could ever happen in reality. You want to eradicate "gun violence"? Sorry, but that makes you the enemy, as you are objectively an advocate for the enslavement of the weak by the strong, whether you're willing to admit it to yourself or not.

  8. Oh my gosh, Patrice, you nailed it. The money quote is right here:

  9. After I stopped laughing too, I got a little frightened. This smacks of total Socialism? Communism? Something-ism, and it ain't healthy. Does this person truly believe people are inherently good? Then why do we have laws, law enforcement, courts, and "punishment"????? I'm not following his/her logic here. In all of recorded history, even ancient civiliations had laws....and some form of "money". But mandatory redistribution of wealth? In some respects we're doing that now, giving the "entitlements" to those who haven't worked and won't worked. I'm not speaking of the truly disabled, elderly, or very young, either. But to forcibly take away from some to give to others? Sheesh. That is surely not my cup of tea....or belief system either. Wonder what THEIR followup comments were.

  10. The Francisco D'Anconia Speech on Money should be mandatory reading in all high schools...

If you've not yet read it - stop everything you're doing now - and READ IT.

  11. In other words: I am unable to succeed on my own merits within the current system, and don't like that you have. So I want to change the rules.

  12. Wow! Everything this person preaches has been tried and has failed. We saw all this in the 60s with the hippies. It didn't work then and I don't think it will work now.

  13. I have a cousin who believes in this drivel. I think deep down he simply does not want to have to work for a living. He's a talented artist and has said he should be able to be handed a decent lifestyle in exchange for creating beautiful art for people to look at.

  14. People are not inherently good. If they were, we would not need salvation.
Money is not the problem, the LOVE of money is the problem.

  16. I've always thought it was one of the great tragedies of history that Karl Marx never really studied the history of the Jamestown Colony. The failure of a collective society was proven there at first, and the roots of America's greatness were sown in John Rolfe's return to free market economics: what you worked for was yours, and what you paid others in exchange for goods was your decision.
If Marx had only known, he could have just said to Engels, "Oh shut up Friedrich, that whole Proletariat thing is a stupid idea." And the world would have been spared some much pain and suffering.

  17. I think there are very few evil people in world but there are an awful lot of lazy people, I'm one of them. If the world was turned into a 'perfect' communism I'd stay in bed all day and read books. Of course so would most people (or watch TV) and we’d all starve to death. But we'd do it 'equally'.
It's scary how many people out there actually genuinely honestly believe this drivel and feel that they need to force everyone else to 'see the light'.

  18. I just read this quote out loud to my brother who is not given to bad language. His response was "what a f@@@wit". Whilst the language was indeed harsh I consider it to be very accurate.

It reads like it was written by a character in an Ayn Rand novel.....and not one of the good guys.

  21. I work at a place where everyone makes the same amount of money, regardless of the work done. Because we're funded by the county in a state with a billion plus dollar deficit, we haven't had raises in 5 years now. When someone screws up, the supervisors don't talk to the individual who made the mistake, they bring it up at the next staff meeting, where the person in error may or may not be present and using general terms like it's something that everyone is probably needing to improve on. I hate working there. I don't work nearly as hard as i did the first two years i was there because i got tired of feeling used. If you want a company that helps you feel self-actualized by never making you feel like you've done anything wrong, by all means, come work here. If you want to get paid what you're worth instead of the same as the lazy 20 year old who spent all shift texting, you may wish to look elsewhere.

  22. P.s. I firmly believe that God created everyone good, but remember, he made Lucifer, too. We can use our free will to do evil and no matter how well loved people are, some people will still choose evil. Look at how Adam and Eve had it all and blew it. Look at how some of these spoiled rich brats never have to work for anything and murder their families out of greed. Everyone has the ability to choose correctly until they die, so absolutely pray for them, but setting up civilization under the assumption that everyone WILL always choose right is naive and dangerous. Setting it up so people will succeed or fail on their merits is better, but even that will fail if a Judeo-Christian belief system doesn't guide the populace. People have an intrinsic value because are made in the image and likeness of God, not because they are potential earners.

  23. Just wait until the grid goes down and see how clever this person is. I hope he/she and fellow comrades don't plan to come to the Redoubt to 'self-actualize' whatever they think is theirs.

  26. This person is a product of the public education system. It's exactly the result they wanted. It's the new normal. He (she?) truly believes this and seriously thinks the rest of us are wrong and evil or part of a cult. He believes it because it's been force fed to him for 12 years with little or no parental, church, or any other contrasting input to show him any thing contrary to what he has read in his text books and heard from his trusted teachers.
