Happy Independence Day, you right-wing terrorists you...

It just gets funnier and funnier (in a grim sort of way).

Did you hear? The charming and lovable Department of Homeland Security now classifies anyone who is “reverent of individual liberty” as being “extreme right-wing terrorists.”

Not mild. Not moderate. Extreme right-wing terrorist. That's us -- storing beans and rice, raising livestock, and canning peas. Pretty extreme.

According to this article, you're classified as an "extreme" right-wing terrorist if you're "suspicious of centralized federal authority" or "reverent of individual liberty."

Reverent. Y'know, I never thought of it in those terms, but reverent fits my attitude pretty well.

"The study says right-wing extremists are 'groups that believe that one’s personal and/or national ‘way of life’ is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent," notes the article.

You mean like raw milk farmers who are attacked by SWAT teams and jailed for selling willing customers fresh wholesome milk? Is that the 'way of life' the DHS claims isn't under attack?

Right-wing extremism also involves a belief in “conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty,” the study claims.

It's not a conspiracy if it's out in the open. Our federal government has never hidden its desire to subjugate states under a federal umbrella and stomp on our individual rights to bear arms, drink raw milk, educate our own children, and otherwise be reverent of individual liberty.

"The FBI’s Communities Against Terrorism program recently classified things such as the bulk purchase of food and paying with cash at a coffee shop as indicators for potential terrorist activity... It appears that anyone could be considered a terrorist these days, depending on who controls the interpretation of the information."

Honestly, this is getting tiresome. By these definitions, Charles Ingalls (Laura Ingalls Wilder's pa) would be a terrorist. So would Ma. So would Laura, for that matter. Sheesh folks, get a grip.


So who's the "domestic terrorist" here...?

We hold these truths to be self-evident...

• He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries...

• He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance...

• For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments...

• For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever...

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

  2. Seriously? Using cash to pay for my two dollar coffee at a coffee shop makes me a potential terrorist?

    Has it occurred to anyone that constantly adding criteria makes it exceedingly less likely they'll ever identify a real threat in time to stop it?

    Some days I feel like we live in a Dilbert cartoon...

    I am a long time reader of your blog and love to see what goes on in your family's lives. However, I do not know if you read the actual report that The Blaze's article came from. It included descriptions of Extreme Right-Wing, Extreme Left-Wing, Religious, Ethno-Nationalist/Separatist etc. groups. Under the description of Extreme Right-Wing groups with terrorist ideas was a complete description that included the words you published (p. 9-10 of the report).

    It isn't talking about someone with one or two characteristics that they outline. It talks of groups with most of the characteristics and who have leaning towards violence.

    I don't think the report was looked at as a whole. I think some parts of it that arouse the "knee-jerk" reaction were taken out of context to get that reaction.

Our Founding Fathers also had "leanings toward violence," my friend. Always when one group wants to enslave and control another, it calls anyone who wants to keep their God-given freedoms and liberties "extremists" and "terrorists." I find it hard to believe that you've been reading Patrice's blog for a "long time" and you don't realize this! --Fred in AZ

  6. So true, and so stupid that they do that. My family must be horrible because we can, we garden, we dehydrate, and we hunt. Oh yeah and we have firearms too, not to mention the fact that I only pay with cash because credit cards are evil. Great article! Thanks!

  7. We have'legislated' common sense right out of society, and, are quickly 'dumbin-down'. Most teenagers can't make change without the register telling them what it is. I was just recently told younger children can't tell time unless it's a digital watch and don't know what quarter pass 3 is. So sad.

  8. What this administration is doing is indeed no small matter. It is of great and grave consequence. The activities of communist take over of the country. There is much of the public that will accept that liberty is a BAD thing. And that people who love liberty are bad people. History bares out that you can convince a body of people of anything. Our government right now is in the hands of communist and thus are making communist rules. Communists hate libery and God who is the author of liberty. But, we must take them seriously because they now have the power to take our property and our families, put us away to never be heard from again. They own our great military and have the arms and might to overtake us. We can no longer depend on this government of redress of our grievances. Let us put our lives and our well being into the hands of our God. Our God can win battles whether he has many warriors or only a few. Let us remember God in Christ Jesus in these dark times, may he have mercy on us and come to our aid. Let us stand our ground and fight the good fight of faith. Maranatha.

  9. So anyone who follows Dave Ramsey (or countless other money advice folks) and uses cash instead of credit are now terrorist? Better let him know that his desire to help people be debt free is a great threat to our country! This is crazy....

I store food, I'm prepped, and I see the fascism and totalitarian dangers facing us....We may disagree on how and why it's happening but we can certainly agree that it IS happening, and as far as I'm concerned, that makes you ally.   11. The Blaze article took the definition from the report totally out of context. The report also indicates that the right wing extremism they are referring to was more common in the 1990s, and it points out that there have been no attacks classified as right-wing since 2000.
    Additionally, the Blaze article takes extreme liberties with the FBI's position. I read all of the linked documents, and I don't find anything about paying cash in a coffee shop. Rather, I see them highlighting being overly-insistent about paying in cash or paying cash for extremely large purchases as one potential factor. They also don't mention bulk food purchases; they do, however, list bulk purchases of ammunition, night vision equipment, MRE's, etc as potentially suspicious, particularly if paid for in cash. Bottom line--these are factors that might bear further investigation. If there are many of them, a situation may bear further investigation.
    I always check the sources with Blaze; sometimes they have some good stuff, and sometimes they twist the truth to get a sensational story. This article seems to be the latter.

  12. Gotta read the actual sources. I always check source documentation, particularly with Blaze. They grossly misrepresented the gist of the report, and they blatantly lie about the content of the FBI documents (coffee shops not mentioned, neither is bulk food purchases). Sometimes Blaze has some good stuff, but this article is way off the mark and does not represent the reality of the content in the sources cited.

    2. Not defending DHS--they are definitely stomping all over the constitution on a daily basis. I'm simply pointing out that the article is taking the quotes it uses WAY out of context and is not fairly representing the facts, and actually contains outright lies in some cases. There's plenty of real data out there to show that the government is way over the line without resorting to half-truths, misrepresentations and lies. Blaze was wqy off the reservation on this one.

    3. The Blaze article might be an exaggeration, but many other reliable and honest sources such as several columnists for WorldNetDaily have also reported on these things. Janet Napolitano DID release a report addressing the involvement of "right-wing extremists." She also stated that veterans returning from on-duty service were being targeted by "right-wing extremist recruiters" to commit acts of "domestic terrorism." As far left as our current administration is, we don't have to be too far to the right at all to be considered a "threat." Narrowing the standard for what is considered "acceptable" and widening it for what is considered "threatening" is the way Marxists operate!

  13. I know a lot people, including myself for a while used to get worked up when I was told I was a potential terrorist for my beliefs. Now I just ignore it. First, I don't give a crap what DHS thinks I am or am not. Second, it becoming the new "racist" term, brand everyone a terrorist that you disagree with to the point that the actual term loses any real meaning. Finally, the point in using any of these attributes by the government is to filter down results so you can look at a smaller sample of potential suspects. The problem is they have cast such a wide net that using garbage like this, i.e. people that pay cash for coffee, as a filter doesn't really narrow your pool of people to watch very well so you end up back at square one of watching the majority instead of some small group of truly dangerous people.
