Lily is a Great Dane that has been blind since a bizarre medical condition required that she have both eyes removed.
For the last five years, Maddison, another Great Dane, has been her sight.
The two are, of course, inseparable.
Now that is sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what else to say...amazing.

Theres alot of people who could take a lesson from these two.... the beginning of the holidays nasties have begun here in the city.
ReplyDeleteAren't dogs amazing ? The most loyal and loving animals ever.

The essence and honor-ability of true companionship and loyalty in a canine!
ReplyDeleteJust heart and soul warming!

I will show this to my vet. She has a blind Great Dane who the orginal owner brought to her as a puppy to put down. She couldn't do it, so Stevie Ray joined her menagerie and does fine with his other 5 companions.
ReplyDeleteI love dogs. Always have, always will. They're like innocent young children. So loyal and devoted to us! I've had many dogs over the years. Most of them black Labs. A beautiful, loving breed. Our dogs have always lived in the home with us, and that has shown us just how smart dogs really are! When in the home, they interact with us and become one of the family. We've always taken the time to train and discipline our dogs and that has made them into wonderfully obedient, always wanting to please companions. Thank God for dogs! --Fred
ReplyDeleteSweet story. A deaf dog can function very well, even in obedience competitions because they become very 'watchful' for communication from their handler. But I've never known a blind dog. It's a heartwarming story. I've seen similar situations with horses. The 'guide' horse companion wears a small bell on halter so that the blind one always has a point of reference.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to the Lewis family!
Stories like this lift me up.
ReplyDeleteA suffering animal breaks my heart into pieces. But I can see that this doggie isn't suffering. She has a friend who loves her. And we think benevolence is a human trait only?
Just Me
One of my friends dad had a blind dog who could fetch a stick ! I still haven't figured out how
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law had two dogs, brother and sister. The boy, Buckwheat, was blind. He was always to be seen right behind or beside his sister, Megan. She was his guide dog all his long life. It was so sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteShortly after moving into our current home our blind boxer would not settle down to sleep one night. His crying and whining finally got me out from under the warm covers to take him outside. As I was coming down the steps from the bedroom I could smell the odor of gas. Someone had leaned against the front of the gas stove and the knob was turned enough for gas to be leaking out. While I was opening windows and doors to air it out, he went back upstairs and promptly went to sleep. Our sighted dog....& my husband slept through the whole thing! We just recently lost him to old age- but he was a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteso cute!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately this is FAR from the truth. By training up a lot of big powerful dogs, and coercing owners to stay away from dog parks, the dogs do not have a chance to learn to be social.pet hotel
