Here's our newest calf. As far as I can tell, it's another heifer. That makes five heifers out of four births so far for our bull Gimli! Not bad statistics! Though frankly I wouldn't mind a bull calf from our last remaining birth (Jet hasn't calved yet) so we can have fresh meat in the freezer two years from now.
Unlike all our other Dexter calves, this little girl is a sort of smoky brown, highly unusual. Dexters come in three colors - black, red, and dun. Ruby has all black genes (double dominant); Gimli has all red genes (double recessive); not sure why this heifer would be brownish, since the black gene would be dominant. I'll have to inquire about the genetics involved.
Anyway, here she is. We're not positive on a name yet but are leaning toward "Smokey."
THANK YOU for posting this! I love your blog!!

ps. Would you like to exchange links?
Commoncents, I'm so sorry but I make it a policy not to exchange links. The reason is it's hard to say "no" to so many kind people, but often those kind people have websites I really don't want to be associated with. So I found it's much easier to refuse all requests. But thank you for the offer!
