Stay-at-home moms are forever lamenting how thankless our jobs are and how unappreciated we are by society at large. Oh sure, WE know we're doing the right things. Our husbands know we're doing the right thing. Our kids know we're doing the right thing. The annoying thing is when others Don't Get It. These are the people unable to see the "big picture" when it comes to raising our children, namely the benefits these well-raised people will bring to society when they're adults.
So this little snippet from a letter to Dr. Laura was, I thought, well phrased:
Society may laugh at me now, but in a handful of years I will have nurtured three productive and God-fearing members of society who will have morals, keep their clothes on, and have edifying words spring forth from their lips. I won't, however, hold my breath waiting for the naysayers' "thank yous" for my societal contribution.
You know, it doesn't even faze me anymore. I still have friends from childhood. Their mothers think me odd, I know. Staying at home, homeschooling, knitting, baking; they get a glazed look in their eyes and a pasted on smile and I can see them wondering how I turned out like this.
ReplyDeleteTheir daughters? Not so much. They think it's great and are working hard at getting their families positioned so they can stay at home too.
Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, in my life has given me the level of satisfaction and contentment that I receive when I see my little ones crowding around the oven to get a freshly baked roll, watch them run around outside in hats and scarves that I knitted just for them, and see the progress our oldest makes with his nursery homeschool. I can't even imagine not wanting to do this.

Exactly! Homeschooling Christian moms, particularly those who also have a survivalist
ReplyDeleteplan (read that as self-reliant) are doing the world a great service. Those who don't understand that will probably never understand it. Or, if they do finally get it, they will probably not admit it. Socialists and atheists lack intellectual honesty. That is why it is impossible to reason with them. They will never concede a point, they will never admit to being wrong. Carry on homeschooling Christian moms, ignore the naysayers. Just carry on, and may God bless each and every one of you.
