Coincidence?

A neighbor boy cracked his head day before yesterday and split open his scalp.  Alarmed, his mother called and asked if we would look at it to see if it was severe enough to require stitches.  Although it bled a lot as scalp wounds do, it was not deep or gaping, and the boy was current on his tetanus shots.  His parents made sure the wound was very clean, and we don't anticipate any further problems.

But the incident reminded Don that he's been meaning to order Steri-Strip skin closures to add to our medical kit.  He got online and ordered them at once.

But then he noticed something interesting.  Amazon.com, as you know, always provides additional suggestions for anything you purchase from their website.  "Customers who bought this item also bought..." -- and they give additional items to consider.

He found it interesting that customers who bought Steri-Strips had also bought "Patriots" and "How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It," by Jim Rawles of SurvivalBlog.com; as well as "One Second After" by William Forstchen.  All of these are superb additions to everyone's Preparedness library.

Coincidence? I don't think so.

  1. Steri-Strips and super glue will close just about any wound that doesn't require stitches. My Dr. closed three 1-1/2" cuts he made for my surgery with super glue. Seriously. No stitches required. I was amazed.

  2. The Veterinarian used super glue to close the suture after spaying my cat.

As I understand it, Medics in 'Nam carried Super Glue for that very purpose.

  3. Don't forget the Cayenne Pepper. It will regulate the blood and clot a wound in just a minute or two and surprisingly doesn't burn as you might think. I know.... Last year I was trimming palm fronds above my head and didn't move fast enough. One came down and sliced where the ear joins to my head. It was gaping and bleeding. I had just read about the Cayenne and told my husband to try it on me. The bleeding stopped almost immediately and I never had a problem. I promptly went to Sams Club and bought several large containers to put in our supplies. I have read it is also good for a heart attack. Mix a teaspoon in a cup of warm water and have the person (if they are conscious of course) to sip it until they can get medical attention.

  4. Coincidence? NO! This Christmas season I wondeered why so many shoppers were out buying like never before. The unemployment levels are high, the housing market is very poor, the price of gas is soaring. They should be staying home instead of shopping. Then it occurred to me that a large percentage of the shoppers may be prepping. They could be buying cotton clothing and sheets before the true price of cotton is reflected in those items. They may be stocking up on food and tools. They might be buying survival-related products, perhaps without even realizing it. The retailers may have had a successful Christmas shopping season due largely to preppers!

Thanks for the reminder, I have to get some steri-strips, too.

  5. Pine Tree sap is good for closing wounds as well.
