More info on difficulties posting

I know some readers are still having problems posting comments. I just received the following email from a reader which might shed light on the situation:

Just wanted you to know that I was finally able to leave a comment on your blog. My wife works with a gal whose husband works on computers for a living. He couldn't leave a message on your blog, either, using Internet Explorer, so he tried with another browser called "Firefox" and that worked! We added the Firefox browser to our system and that did the trick. If you get anymore emails from folks having trouble leaving comments on your blog, you might ask them if they have Internet Explorer for their browser. For some reason, it doesn't work with your blog anymore, at least not for us!

Once more I'll state that I'm an absolute doofus when it comes to computer issues, but hopefully this reader's experience might be helpful to others.

  1. Patrice...I've never had a problem when I've used Google Chrome either, so that's another option for people. I don't use Internet Explorer at all anymore because I was unable to consistently post on several blogs with it. HTH

  2. i have had problems with comments on my own blog as well. i have discovered (after googling the topic) that if you log in to blogger and check the "stay signed in" box you will NOT be able to leave comments on later visits. instead you have to go and sign out of blogger (and google) then sign back in after UNCHECKING the "stay signed in" box. sounds totally confusing but it solved my problems....

  3. IE is a BLACK HOLE, and a security nightmare. I have not used Google Chrome, but have stuck with Firefox for three years and have had no issues commenting on blogs - and I'm addicted to blogging.

  4. The first thing that I have done with every new computer is download FIREFOX. I have never had problems with them. They update their browser every 6 weeks. I have heard stories about Google Chrome not being very good as well.

  5. I had a problem posting comments 2 or 3 weeks ago on blogs using Blogger. Turned out, for me anyhow, that I had inadvertantly checked the wrong box and therefore I couldn't post comments until I corrected it. By now I've forgotten exactly what I did, but it definitely had something to do with Blogger.

Sometimes I can't find a solution so I go into Windows XP Control Panel>Systems & Security>Action Center>Restore Your Computer to an Earlier Time>Open System Restore. Then reset everything to before the date that the problem occurred. So if, for example, I had a problem with something today (10/12/11), I'd reset the computer to the previous reset date nearest today's date. It might be reset to 10/7/11.

Disclaimer: I am about as computer illiterate as they come, so my "fixes" may be the wrong way to do things.

  6. Oh sure, as soon as I hit "Post Comment" I remembered why I couldn't post comments on Blogger about 3 weeks ago. I had changed my settings to block cookies from being attached in an attempt to eliminate spam, but then Blogger wouldn't speak to me. I guess it really likes its cookies. LOL
