How to beat the system

I was going through some older (and unanswered) emails when I came across a humorous photo sent by a reader named Becky. It seems some folks in Döllstädt, central Germany were denied a permit to build a shelter for their horses (thus proving that government bureaucrats are idiots the world over). So they decided to build a table and chairs instead.

Clever!!

  1. And then you have the person out by me that was told that they HAD to build a shelter for their horses because the trees weren't good enough. The horses don't use the shelter because they prefer the trees.

  2. I love the solution. But it is difficult to judge how reasonable the rejection was without knowing all the details. But it does look suspicious (idiotic) enough.

  3. Fantastic solution! That looks better than most barns.

  4. As I always tell my kids, "There is always a back door or a window if the front door is locked." My meaning behind this is, don't let someone hem you in with a ridiculous rule or "law". There is always another solution to the problem. My "momism" might not really "always" be true, but after 62 years on this earth, I have found it mainly to be so.

  7. it was actually a photo in time magazine a while ago. the photo was indeed taken in germany, but the shelter was built as an advertisement for the owners woodworking business...pretty clever if you ask me... :)

  8. It is a really funny story, and I confess... I kind-of wish it was true. Like The Provident Planner said, the photo is real, but the story isn't. I don't know if this will go through with two links, but here they are:

  9. Such a funny photo. Even if the story isn't true, I love the picture. Would love to do something like this for the goats. Can only imagine how much fun they'd have with it.
