Reader Natalie in South Carolina sent me a recall notice for a canning jar lifter made by a company called Progressive International. You can see the full notice here.
The text of the recall notice reads:
About 22,700 Canning Jar Lifters in the U.S., and 3,800 in Canada, were voluntarily recalled by Progressive International Corporation, of Kent, Wash., in cooperation with the CPSC.
Manufactured in: China
Hazard: The jar lifter handle can detach over time due to a missing stainless steel core in the hinge. This can cause the tongs to fail to grip and allow a jar being lifted to fall, posing a laceration hazard to the user.
Incidents/Injuries: Progressive International has receivedno reports of injury or property damage.
Description: The recall involves the One Handed Jar Lifter. The jar lifter is a pair of tongs designed for lifting canning jars out of boiling water. The lifter is red with white handles. It is made of plastic and metal with a nylon coating.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the jar lifter and contact Progressive International Corporation for a free replacement.
Might be worth looking in your canning tools to see if anyone has this particular make of jar lifter.
Thanks for the notice! Not the type I have but great they put the info out
ReplyDeleteThank You for notifying us of the recall. I haven't heard this from any news source.
ReplyDeleteIs it just coincidental that the company name is "Progressive" International?
