How DARE he?

Older Daughter woke up the other morning and came out of her room, blinking sleep from her eyes. "I had the weirdest dream," she told me. "I dreamed I dumped a boyfriend because he dared to use bathroom humor in front of me, A LADY."

Let it be known that Older Daughter has never had a boyfriend. But when she does, he'd better not use bathroom humor!

  3. Crude humor that you might typically find among adolescent boys, often dealing with flatulance or other bodily functions. Put a bunch of 15 year old boys together without adult supervision, then creep close and listen at the door... and you'll get an earful! I have three brothers, I know whereof I speak.

  4. Hear, hear! Maybe society-in-general would be farther along the road to civility if young ladies (of all ages!) would hold the line against offensive humor from the men around them. It's certainly worth a try! As unfair as it sounds, it has always been up to women to uplift the human condition, and up to men to aspire to deserve such women.

High five and big hugs for Older Daughter.

  6. There have been many times when I've had to remind my husband and four sons that they are not at Scout Camp--Mom and sister are present! Refrain from crude humor. I think it is part of their DNA.

  8. It was "bathroom humor" that tipped me off about the pervert living next door. He would constantly say things that were completely inapproriate for the young people around him. Later somebody asked me what I thought of him. I said I think he's a child molestor and I say this because of his fascination with bodily functions. Not a month later he was arrested for child molestation and spend over a year in prison. Not enough time behind bars as far as I'm concerned. Additionally, I believe this was not the first time he had done such vile things.

Patrice, your daughter is a smart girl. Avoid men who have no sense of propriety.

THAT is as about as close to absolute truth as you will ever get. Every man knows that we don't deserve the women we marry. But that's our secret, so tell anybody, 'hear?

  11. Anonymous Patriot says: "Avoid men who have no sense of propriety." Yes, but please, let's not stop at men! I grew up with 4 sisters and helped raise our 3 daughters. Females can show quite a lack of propriety, too! And they often encourage such behavior in our young men.

  12. Maybe it's just the people I know, but the females can be-are-every bit as crude as guys are.Slightly different crude, but still on a par with guys.A sense of propriety is very important, but guys don't have the market cornered on crude.Manners are for all. Aren't present day dads just former boyfriends that got turned into husbands?
