Heaven and Hell

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like."

The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.

In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell."

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The holy man said, "I don’t understand."

"It is simple," said the Lord. "It requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. The greedy think only of themselves."

  3. Sounds like mutually beneficial trade. That's capitalism, and pure evil.

  4. Where are the trolls coming from? Time to get out the troll traps. Catch them, skin them, and hang them out to dry.

The only economis system that can be fair and honest is capitalism. Some people may corrupt it, but that doesn't mean the system itself is "evil," but that some people are. Please learn to distinguish between the two, Anonymous 11:00pm. The next time you sell something at a yard sale, ebay, or craigslist please be aware that you are enjoying the benefits of capitalism. Did it feel evil to you? If so, you didn't do it right.

  5. Not sure what Anon 11:00pm meant by the "pure evil" comment. Capitalism pure evil or capitalism and an example of pure evil?

Anyway, I see it as neither.

  6. Patrice - that's great! And an excellent way to think of prepping, too. If we prep, we can pool our resources and skills to help each other out in a pinch. Examples: You have milk, I sew... One hubby welds, another has a tractor... you know how it goes :). LET US FEED EACH OTHER TODAY! Jennifer

Collectivism almost destroyed the Plymouth settlement in 1622. They survived by returning to the free market. Fortunately, they were fast learners.

  8. If you treasure your life you will lose it. If you treasure all your holdings you will lose it. They only thing that you have that will last forever is your soul/spirit. Capitalism is the only sensible choice for a free human being. Don't hold on too tight because life can and will turn on a dime.

  9. Some people have trouble with irony.

  10. And, of course that is what government aid programs are all about.

  14. Our pastor used that story as part of the wedding sermon when my daughter got married. It's such a great illustration!
I found your blog from Survivalblog and want to thank you for your info on the Tattler reusable canning lids. Awesome! I did find it funny that you signed that post with "editor of Rural Revolution" and never mentioned writing articles for WND! You have great talents and I'm pulling up a chair for more frequent visits.

  17. Anon 12:29, not sure of your identity so not sure why you think I've been silent... unless (cough) you're referring to my shameful backlog of (cough) unanswered emails I'm slowing crawling my way through (cough). I think it's going to be my New Year's resolution, to keep abreast of my emails. At any rate, no worries, I'm not offended and I thank you for your comments about my latest WND piece.
