Welcome, spring!

Here it is, the first day of spring, and it's snowing.

The dogs don't mind!

We're supposed to get a few more inches today and tonight.

But on the whole, the weather is tipping toward warm rather than cold. Spring is, indeed, on its way.

How's the weather in your part of the country?

  1. Muggy! Texas is now going from warm and humid to cool and windy. We've had such bad storms over the past couple of days!

  2. It's currently 80 degrees and sunny here in Northern Illinois. I can't believe this weather! It's been the best March ever! lol :)

  3. Gettysburg, PA - It's been "unseasonably warm" for the last two week. Wonderful for son's track practice and daughter's soccer. Then Mother Nature pulled out a wet, foggy, gray, drizzly day in the 50's for my birthday.

Our newspapers have been printing articles telling people - don't plant yet! It's warm, but historically last frost is around April 20th.

  5. This has been a crazy strange March, unusually warm (70s!) and this has completely fubared our maple syruping. No sap to be had this year, at all. Rats! I finally purchased taps earlier this year, for my first year of syruping - and it's a complete bust! Well, they will still be good next year.

We are forecast way warm for the season through next week. But you never know - your snow has a way of becoming our snow.

  7. We have had great weather until yesterday. Got 10 inches of rain last night, no power since 6pm yesterday, and both roads leading out to the highway are underwater. All is well here though. We are prepared to take care of ourselves. Gotta love Louisiana.

  9. We live in upstate New York and it has been 80 degrees the past three days!!!! Yesterday we ate dinner on the deck of a restaurant overlooking the water. It was lovely, but I feel as though I am in a wierd science fiction movie!!!!

  10. Cooler today, in the 60s here in Southeast Texas. The AC has been on for the past few days. We went picking wild onions this morning and will can them on Friday. My Spring garden is almost all in.

  11. We're having July weather in March in northern Indiana. The flowering trees are in bloom, my daffodils have blossomed and the tulips are budding. However I don't trust it! It's very strange when your neighbors are opening their pools before the kids have had Spring Break. My thermometer shows 87.8 right now, and it's in the shade on the north side of the house.

    1. Cool - I'm from Wilmington but moved to Patrice's neck of the woods a couple years ago. Been back in northern NC helping family through a crisis since the summer. Once I get back "home" it is definitely going to take me a while to get used to four true seasons again!

  13. Windy and 81 with lots of sunshine in Western KY today. We're planting potatoes (after I finish this sandwich;-) and onions, if we don't run out of daylight. Rain is forecast for the rest of the week, so we're working hard today.

  14. Here in So. Cal. where the weather is as mixed up as most of the people I have nectarine and plumb trees in full bloom. Then last weekend a storm blew through and the mountains just north of my place were covered with snow. It got cold, for So. Cal. that is. Glad my tomatoes were still on the window sill, they wouldn't have made it if they had been in the ground. Don

    1. Are those the San Bernardino mountains? I used to live there and friends said they had one or two snow days from school last week.

  15. A delightful 60 degrees and a gentle breeze (This is supposed to be where the wind come whipping down the plains).

Peach and apple trees bloomed. Pontiac red potatoes are up and leafing out! Planted an entire 50# bag so there is going to be some GOOD eating! Our temps are about one month ahead (milder) of where they are supposed to be. Praying for no cold snap!

  16. northeast mississippi has been warm and in the low to mid eighties the last two weeks. everything is in bloom. we had a very wet winter and looks like we are fixing to get some rain today or tonight. this morning i put my squash plants in the ground and planted my bean, beet, and carrot seed. we usually have a light last frost around the 1st of april but winter is over. hopefully we are not into a really wet spring. a little rain is okay. :)

  17. The Minnesota prairie was 78 with thunder storms last week. It is cooling off but the trees are budding and the robins are back.

  18. upstate ny is insane... in the upper 70's low 80's. Craziest March of my entire life. 124 years ago they said we had 5' of snow. i dont doubt it. that sounds way more normal for the adirondack mountains. weve already plowed our garden. strange.

  19. In S. Idaho we got a nice little snow storm and an inch of very wet snow yesterday. Today it's in the 60's with a light breeze. By Friday we may see high 60's or perhaps a 70 degree day.

  20. Who moved my Michigan???? We broke hi temp records AGAIN today with a balmy 81. I do believe Winter forgot to show up!! No snowstorms or snow to speak of, just super mild temps. I've been thoroughly enjoying the last 6 months for a change... :) :)

  21. In the southern Willamette Valley in Oregon, we got 6-10 inches of snow, high of 43, and more forcast for tomorrow. Kind of confuses the blooming daffidils and chickens!

  22. Central WV - low 80s and sunny. We took part of the day off from schooling to butcher 10 roosters. Tomorrow is supposed to be 83 and partly cloudy. We'll be canning chicken and planting at least one row of potatoes and maybe some onions. It's more like mid-May here. Somehow I don't trust it. My peach tree is starting to bud. Lord, please don't let it freeze.

  24. It's hot. Eighty-four degrees.

Maple syrup season sneaked up on us in February and everyone missed it. I saw the sap running, but thought.."It's only February...syrup season isn't for another month yet. I've got time"

I dillied and dallied and I missed it. I only got 2 gallons of sap before it went bad. That's a cup of syrup. Delicious, though. I'm not sharing.

Last year at this time, I wasn't even thinking about the garden. This year, I've already planted spinach and I might be too late with that already, too. It won't germinate if the soil is too warm. I can't believe I have to get the tiller running in March and get going on spring planting!

BTW: I get a lump in my throat every time I see a picture of Major. So glad he's doing well.

  25. Aw, spring! Ain't it wonderful! Here in my neck of the woods, we experienced a one inch rainfall on the official first day. One to five was the prediction. Actually, spring has been here for about a month already. Last year's drought and heat wave is but a memory, praise the LORD.
