A reader sent this. It's a little late for Christmas but I thought it was cute.

It was the day after Christmas at a church in San Francisco. The pastor of the church was looking at the manger scene when he noticed that the baby Jesus figure was missing from the cradle. He immediately turned and went outside and saw a little boy with a red wagon walking down the street. In the wagon was the figure of the infant Jesus. So he walked up to the boy and said, "Son, where did you get that little baby Jesus that's in your wagon?"
The little boy replied, "I got him from the church."
"And why did you take him?" asked the pastor.
The little boy replied, "Well, about a week before Christmas, I prayed to the little Lord Jesus. I told him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas, I would give him a ride around the block in it."
This story is from the radio program Dragnet. Aired in the late 40's to early 50's I think. It was a half hour program made especially for Christmas. The baby Jesus was gone for over a day and when the Captain told Joe Friday they had other cases to work on, Joe Friday told the Captain he should call the parish priest and tell him that. The Captain relented and told him to keep on it. How do I know this? I just heard the program several days ago on Classic Radio on SiriusXM. We so enjoy this channel and listen in the house and car and on the internet. Better programming than on TV these days.

ReplyDeleteThe pastor could have run up to the boy exclaiming that he was a thief or "a BAD boy" for taking the decoration.(something the child personified into the real Christ Child) This is something that I have witnessed in more minor scenarios in the local grocery store. Instead he was calm and asked this boy what he was doing. He was treated with a display of the innocence of children. I wonder if people believe children are not innocent anymore. They ARE! When we greet their innocence with accusation and anger they begin to lose it. Please remember that children are human too! They need to be taught every thing. If you have not taught your child specifically that they can not do something then please, please give them a second chance and TEACH them what to do instead before you become irate.
