Sad loss

I just learned this morning that Elijah, Lydia's father, passed away.

The wonderful folks at Agape Ranch are the reason we have Lydia, and Elijah was such an integral part of Jim and Carol's lives that I can't imagine them without him.

The term "gentle giant" certainly applied to Elijah.

He was well loved by everyone, but none more so than Carol and Jim.

Godspeed, Elijah.

  1. Losing hairy four footed children can be as sad as loosing the two footed species...

    1. It is completely devastating when you lose your fur babies. Last year my husband and I lost 2 of our wonderful babies to old age. They were both 16. It is a heart-wrenching and gut-wrenching experience.
The only solace that we have is that it was able to be done here at home and they did not have to endure any stress due to having to go to the vet's office which they hated. God bless all of our babies at the rainbow bridge. 😭

  4. You never get over the loss of a good dog. You move on, but a piece of you is missing.
How blessed they were to know him.

  5. Oh this made me cry. I know how sweet these precious animals are. My Opal is the same kind of getnle giant. I dread the day we will have to say good bye. I just wish their life spans could match ours.

  6. What a wonderful tribute , it brought tears to my eyes. I know that our dogs are our children and when we lose one it is heart breaking.. its such a shame that they don;t have longer life spans!

  7. This breed is one of my favorites. Elijah is a beautiful dog and you can tell he was full of love! My heart goes out to this family for their loss. I can see why he would be missed so. What a big love! These dogs are used by many alpaca farms for guards and family pets and they are excellent companions as well as guarding the herds. You are fortunate to have one of his offspring. Lydia seems to have a lot of her sire's qualities....and Lydia is very cute too!

  8. What a magnificent example of the breed! And how I bawled just now reading your article and seeing the pictures. The one of him sleeping on his back with his boy just did me in. Our little Sunny's Bonnie Lass Kate (got to have a big name for a small example of a lab!) does the same thing. We will miss her desperately some day. Until then, we are enjoying every day God gives us with her.

    As you wrote, Godspeed, Elijah.

  9. I need trifocals that correct for TEARS! Reading things like this always brings back memories of the loss of our own four-legged family members. (Our house is currently under the "reign" of a feline four-legged family member.) My prayers and condolences to Elijah's human parents and sibling(s)! And to you, Lewises, who knew/loved Elijah, too.
