A weapon guide for the uninformed

A friend sent this.

And a reader sent this, which could also apply to Idaho.

Because newspapers are publishing maps of gun owners in NY, we thought it only fair to do the same in Texas. Attached is a map of Texas gun owners.

  1. Perhaps it could be clearer - there is a distinction between military and military-style: One of them is fully automatic, and the other is semi-automatic. The AR15 CAN be made to fire full auto, but that would be illegal.

He also left out the box of rocks.

    1. Even there you can get distinctions, since the US Army has the unpoular three-round burst limitation on many of its weapons. I guess you could call that semi-full automatic.

    2. Auto is auto. Semi is semi. This hoopla over "military style" makes no sense. The military does not use full auto AR 15s. They are semi and burst. Other weapons are full auto but that does not make them "military style". It just makes them a full auto weapon.

Full auto is not illegal. You simply need to fill out the right paperwork, get fingerprinted, background check, etc. They are fairly common at the ranges around me in the free state of Arizona. They're a blast to shoot which is why most people buy them.

  2. FYI....

I am a gun owner that is only against high powered assault weapons with large magazine clips. Since Sandy Hook, there have been over 950 gun deaths in the USA to date.

The NRA does NOT represent GUN OWNERS....but in fact ONLY represents GUN MANUFACTURERS. Follow the money.

Over 72% of NRA members believe in the most recent modifications of gun laws presented by the Obama Administration.....this in contrast to the NRA's gun lobbyist's goal to continue to sell as many guns as possible....here AND across our borders.

    3. Yeah, that's exactly why the NRA added more than a quarter of a million new members last month. Troll alert!!!

    4. Contrary to the right wing media, Fast and Furious was an extension of Project Gunrnner that was created by GW Bush in 2005.

It allowed the ATF to follow the sales of illegal gun distribution across the borders.

    5. Information source:

CNN Posts right after Sandy Hook.

    6. My husband and I and our friends, neighbors, community in general are pretty clean-cut, educated, responsible and so forth. I do not know a single person that supports modification of the Second Amendment. The phrase "shall not be infringed" was trampled upon prior to the new set of edicts President Obama has signed. The new gun laws do nothing to remove guns of any kind from criminals and now make criminals of law-abiding citizens.

    7. The gun and ammo industry is a 6 BILLION DOLLAR a year business.

The NRA spent 2.2 million dollars on lobbyists in 2012.

I am certain it is to their advantage to view incidents like Sandy Hook as a great opportunity to scarf up on more gun sales and that is what has happened.

The last thing they want is to make modifications in back ground checks and reinstate the 2004 AR gun ban. This would put a big DENT in such a lucrative industry.

Instead…..it makes more sense to start a scare frenzy saying that your gun rights and the second amendment are being taken away by Obama. This is absolutely not the case with these executive orders.

My question to you is this:
Have you even LOOKED at the executive orders that that have been put forward by the President?

Reintroducing the assault ban of 2004 has been offered up but has to be passed by Congress. They are the only ones that can do this.

The NRA has ginned up enough fear of losing the second amendment to have produced an increase in their members.

I will say this again……The least of the NRA's concerns are for their members....but in fact...soley with GUN MANUFACTURERS. Follow the money.

    8. High powered? Nobody who is an actual gun owner would use that false descriptor. Most hunting rifles use a larger caliber. Don't blame the illegally obtained inanimate piece of metal. Blame the psycho firing it!

      Delete
    9. Innocent civilians are becoming more and more at risk by AR weapons.....and THIS is what concerns you???

In case you didn't notice....The idea is to make it more difficult and illegal for these assault weapons to be available. Why make it easier for them?

Are you GETTING THE BIG PICTURE YET???

      Delete
    10. The big picture is that banning a certain type of rifle does not protect anyone. America's children are at risk from psychos and false protection in the form of "gun-free" zones. Criminals break the law. Adding more laws is not going to change that fact.

      Delete
    11. It would stop the incredible amount of money being made with AR sales (average cost 3 to 5 K) that are being sold across the border and make it not so easy to mow down multiple victims in seconds.

Like Obama said.."If this action can save even one child's life, it will be worth this effort".

More guns???? Reagan had 5 armed guards by his side when John Hinckley shot him. We will never completely stop the in sane....but we can make it harder for them.

      Delete
    12. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Especially when it's a false feeling of safety. A handgun could have just as easily have been used as an AR.

AR's do not cost 3k average.

      Delete
    13. Are you kidding?
Lanza could NEVER have killed as many kids with just a single shot hand gun before being apprehended....but it turned out just like he had planned. HE GOT EVERY ONE OF THEM IN SECONDS!! This is unacceptable.

You have to admit....they are kind of overkill don'tcha think???.....literally!
      FYI:

JUST A BASIC LEVEL ENTRY SINGLE SHOT .50 BMG chambered rifle starts at about $2,500 - $3,500. Good quality optics start at about another $1,000....this does not count the over the top expense of ammo. This is why this is such a lucrative industry.

Like I said 3 to 5 K unless you are buying second hand or building your own...............BJ

      Delete
    14. Single shot hand gun? .50 BMG?

Clearly you don't know much about guns. I'll help you out.

Semi-automatic means that for each pull of the trigger one round is fired. The AR used was a semi-automatic. Most handguns are also semi-automatics and actually easier to fire in close quarters than a rifle(see Virginia Tech).

The typical AR is NOT a .50 BMG. That's a huge round that very few people can fire from the shoulder. .223 would be a typical AR caliber.

Again. The inanimate piece of metal is not to blame. As much as I would like there to be some magic solution to this problem there just isn't one. Punishing law abiding Americans for the actions of a psycho who STOLE the guns he used is ridiculous.

  4. I agree. Troll. Multiple problems with the info from his/her post. I am a gun owner and the NRA represents me perfectly. The only people I have heard this stupid statement from on are anti-gun people pretending to be gun owners.

Second, this 72% stat cited is bogus. Who did a poll of NRA members, the membership list is private and I am pretty sure the NRA didn't release the list to a polling company so they could put a poll out that hurts their cause.

    1. I want to add to my comment above, I KNOW this 72% number is bogus now. While I just finished watching the O'Reilly Factor and he had 2 liberals on the show discussing the issue in NY about privacy and publishing legal gun owners addresses. The second person he was interviewed, her last name was Sussman came out with this 72% bogus number as well. Almost word for word what the poster above put down.

Gun owners beware, the liberals have manufactured another bogus stat, not unlike the 90% of guns in Mexico stat comes from the U.S. and they are obviously going out to all the news shows, online forums, blogs, etc. and sprinkling this bogus stat around trying to get it into the national conversation. Don't let them. This is fake and a lie.

    2. The only bogus point you just made is that you heard it from 'SO CALLED FOX NEW."

Did you know that Canada banned Fox News from their country a few years back because it was so innacurate and full of misinformation that the people got rid of it??.....but it has currently come back into the Canadian air space.....some Canadian viewers have commented that they watch it"just to get a good laugh."

Of course everything I say to you is bogus because that is where you are getting all of your information.

CNN is a bi-partisan network and the 72% I refrenced came out from them right after Sandy Hook. It was the sentiment from all Americans including NRA members at that time. I'm sure that has changed since because of the ginned up frenzy they have created.

You can take this down your silly troll path if you like and live with it in the dark in ignorance.....because you will never deviate from so called Fox News and Friends.

You said Obama would never win the election either (from Fox).....and guess what?.....it was a landside!! Do you wonder why you didn't have a clue about that???....

BECAUSE YOU LISTEN TO FOX SO CALLED NEWS!! Wake up, Troll.....BJ

    3. Hey troll, what exactly is a "magazine clip" anyway? Just what kind of gun do you own? I think you are a liar and a fool.

"Gun free zones" are the reason for these massacres, not AR-15's. Nearly EVERY mass shooting since 1950, with the notable exception of the attempted assassination of Gabby Giffords, has been in a GUN FREE ZONE! Go ahead and look it up, or is your closed liberal mind too fragile to handle facts?

Instead of foolishly pretending to be a gun owner and an NRA member, why don't you admit what you really are and explain why keeping guns from peaceable citizens has been such a dismal failure everywhere and always leads to calls for EVEN MORE bans and gun control.

Gun control KILLS! Go away troll.

  5. the orange map of texas makes me think of mississippi being surrounded by states with the flu epidemic..some folks have asked what makes mississippi exempt from the flu epidemic..well, the answer is that all us mississippians are suffering from the "mississippi crud" (similar to flu and nasty bad colds/allergies) and the meds we are taking cover up the flu symptoms pretty well.

  19. Why can't we ban guns? If you want to self-defend yourself then learn Martial arts?

Are you saying that marksmanship is not a martial art?
How moronic. Anyway, not everybody has the
same hobbies as you do, or the inclination to spend their time as you dictate.
People have jobs, people have careers, people go to school.
People have families to raise, and people have their
own hobbies that they care about. Most people don't have the time to spend
several years learning kung fu. You can't expect them to just accept being assaulted, injured, and potentially killed by criminals
just because they don't fit your conception of who gets to
defend themselves. So no, guns will not be banned any time soon.
