Simmering with resentment

I’m working on our taxes. It’s early to do taxes – usually I wait until the last possible minute to hand the paperwork over to our bookkeeper – but this year there are so many financial unknowns that I need to get everything done as soon as possible so we can start saving money to pay off our oppressors.

I made an appointment for February 6 to meet with our tax preparer, and it will take her about a week to figure out how much hush money we’ll need to fork over to our benevolent government. It might take us several months to save up in order to pay Uncle Sam. Since we’re self-employed (meaning, we don’t have withholdings from a monthly paycheck), the amount is likely to be huge. Enormous. Staggering. “I wouldn’t be surprised,” noted Don, “if we’re forced to pay an additional month’s worth of income on top of what we will already owe.”

It doesn’t matter that we would prefer our money to go elsewhere – our church, our daughter’s braces, paying extra on our mortgage. It doesn’t matter that WE earned our money, not the government. It doesn’t matter. We all need to bleed a lot more in order to provide Hope and Change to people who haven’t earned it.

Welcome to Amerika.

I talked with some friends recently and learned they’ve already had a $300 decrease in their monthly paycheck. This is a single-income family barely making ends meet – and now they’re forced to surrender a huge chunk of their hard-earned money to an out-of-control group of federal thugs who will do unspeakable things with it.

It’s no wonder this country is simmering with resentment. Anger. Fury.

You see, productive Americans are tired of supporting an entitlement class eating high on the hog while we’re buying beans, rice, and second-hand socks. We resent being told we MUST partake of a product we don’t want (socialized medicine) or face punitive punishment. We’re tired of being called domestic terrorists if we happened to agree with the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We’re tired of continued attempts by government goons to infringe on our right to bear arms.

And we’re TIRED OF HYPOCRITES like Dianne Feinstein who want to “fingerprint, photograph and investigate Americans who already have weapons.” You do this to criminals. YOU DON’T DO THIS TO LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS.

I’m in a position to see and hear a lot of this resentment, and I can testify it’s growing by leaps and bounds. It’s becoming louder and more bitter. It’s coming from people who are weary beyond belief, weary of intrusive and unconstitutional invasions into peoples’ private lives and personal incomes. And believe me when I say the last straw will be continued attempts to whittle away at our Second Amendment rights.

Our politicians are paying no heed whatsoever to this resentment. Surrounded by fawning sycophants, they dismiss any and all opposition as unimportant and juvenile. They choose to label anyone who feels stepped upon as tinfoil hat-wearers bitterly clinging to various important things.

And I’m here to tell them: PAY ATTENTION. We the People are getting fed up. You REALLY don’t want to wake a sleeping giant.

YOU REALLY DON’T.

Patrice they DON'T listen! I wrote my senators - only one answered back, via e-mail, but the message had nothing, and I mean nothing to do with what I wrote about. It was blah, blah, this is what I do for you, blah, blah. The standard 'shut up - I know what you need' response. You are SO right, these idiots (really, they are) have no idea how totally fed up we are. It is very scary - they won't listen and our votes don't matter. What comes next??

  4. This is another manifestation of what Ayn Rand 's bood Atlas Shrugged was all about. Eventually those of us that produce will pull the plug, and the sooner the better. I realy wish that everyone would read that book. She is an athiest, but it does not matter when we all decide to "go Gault".

  5. The payroll tax rate for SSDI and Medicare reverted back to the old rate that was in place prior to the Bush tax cuts. Since our current administration did nothing to extend those rate cuts they went up two percent. Every one I know is taking home less in their paycheck because of this. I was "lucky" enough to get raise so my paycheck is the same. The entitlement class should thank me for the raise.

I am a divorced single mom and with the INCREASES in taxes, health insurance, short term disability insurance (can't risk an injury losing my home), I am now $400 less per month. (sigh) if only my parents had not raised me as a upstanding, moral, self reliant person ;)

  7. I'm tired of my money going to people that don't care how its spent! In my household if I'm having trouble paying my bills then I start looking at what I need versus what I want. Its simple the government wants to keep spending money to save money that's not how it is. telling the people to go green stop using so much water or electric so that are bills will be lower, why so they can take more? Make us pay into a account that I will probably never get to draw out of because they keep taking out of it (social security)

  8. We're feeling the crunch, a big one too! I'm a bit horrified at the amount of taxes we have to pay and now with the "new" increase to top it off. It's hard on a milkhauler's wage. I will tell you this, I truely believe that we're going to see a revolution in this country and it's going to be between the "takers" and the "givers". We're tired of working ourselves to death practically so we can take care of these users of the system and the numbers are increasing daily. There are so many people out there that are being "allowed and paid" to be lazy, period. I also realize that there are people who have worked hard all their lives and now have come on hard times and need help. Those people we do not mind helping, it's the "entitlement' generation that seems to be growing in leaps and bounds that's offensive. I often wonder if these people actually know where that money comes from that they live off of and if they do, do they actually care?! This government that we have and obviously some who continue to elect them, continues to destroy us and make our lives miserable as we pay them well to do such a good job, don't we?! I'm sorry, but I just find this ridiculous that we've allowed "our" government, who have quite nice salaries, paid by us, to make our lives miserable! I'm hoping people are starting to get the picture by now! This country is going to have to get rid of the whole bunch before anything is going to change, including the "takers" or they're going to have to get a different attitude and get to work or at least try to do something for themselves that is worthwhile to help provide for themselves and their families and communities. The "all about me" is about to see an end, and not the one they expected either.

I fear this will only get worse. The welfare parasites stole the election in November and they will have more control over national economic policy. This of course will feed on itself, the producers will be slowly be devoured. They will shut down and create more parasites that were workers who will in turn become parasites and shut down more producers.

The opposite could happen with budget cuts, tax cuts and thus creating producers and producers hiring former parasites who then become producers themselves.

See' I did that without a Doctorate in Economics from Harvard....

  10. Totally agree. I have no problem paying towards roads and basics but the spending and gimmie programs are out of control. We are now on 3-4th generation of welfare tappers. I've no problem with SHORT TERM help 3-6 mo to get back on the feet but years because they don't want to work sickens me. We are expanding the garden to help make ends meet for us and out childrens families

    3. The whole idea of government is to help people when they are down and to give them a leg up towards leveling the playing field of prosperity.

Government is there to take care of its own. Katina? Sandy? come on.....are you really that invinsible so as to not see that there could be situations in which even you could use a helping hand? BJ

That is not part of government; to write that it is the WHOLE IDEA defies comprehension. It is that EXACT mentality that caused the problem, in regard to both individual welfare and corporate welfare. Neither is entitled to one penny of my money. Both are sucking the life blood and entrepreneurial spirit out of this nation.

The former USSR leveled the "playing field of prosperity" all the way down to poverty for all, except for the elite. This is identical to what is happening right now in the US of A.

No cable, no extra fun stuff, need to fix one of our vehicles, lost our house and are renting now (which sucks cause it costs more than our house was, but we needed to sell it due to the fact the upkeep was killing us).... First this all happened because i lost my teaching job after 4 years and now am to overedcated for any non teaching job. tqchjng jobs here in california are scarce and one position has over 300 applicants. I am so worried about taxes, we usually make a little back but without the house I hope we break even because to owe more money to the government whos taken slmost 1/2 of my husbands real pay Check before taxes would be super hard since we are making it pay check to paycheck and I bet a lot of other good folks are worried too!

The only voter fraud I saw was when GOP governors like Rick Scott and other GOP governors in other states took voting days and hours away to force people to wait in long lines till the wee hours of the morning to vote.

This should not be happening in this country. Most of those were Democratic neighhorhoods.

EVEN IN LIU of voter suppression by demanding this ridiculous ID for students and old people that have voted for years along with gerrymandering counties, Obama still won by a landslide of popular and electoral votes.

You just can’t get enough voter fraud going on to make up that kind of difference. Poor losers??

  23. With all due respect to your situation.....Obama was ready to sign a bill not raising ANY taxes on middle class Americans making under 250K. (I know that is for 2013 and not 2012)....but he finally caved to the rightys to keep from going over the cliff so taxes will rise for anyone makeing over 50K next year.

The Republican party does not give a damn about the middle class. They show this with every bill they have filibuster that would have helped middle class Americans.

Roads, Internet, Libraries, Fire, Police, Medical, Parks, Grants and on and on……SOMEBODY has to pay for these privileges and that somebody is all of us working together for the betterment of the commons. If you don't like the ground rules....you can always choose to live elsewhere.

I am not naive enough to think that all of our tax dollars are spent wisely....especially on military.

Did you know we have more bases in the world than there are countries? This in itself is a travesty of unnecessary proportions. Just cutting SOME of it would put more back into this country when we so desperately need it.

“Entitlements" are NOT freebies.....but in fact insurance policies that each and every American has already paid into to assist them in later years when they need it. I agree that a lot needs to change….but we disagree on exactly what those changes should be. BJ

Grants...really? What for? Who decides? I'm 100% opposed to grants. I don't believe in student loans either. College costs have only increased to keep pace in a manner that sucks up every increase in MY tax dollars being used for other people's children to go to school, especially private ones.

My daughters used SCHOLARSHIPS and they worked to pay the balance. Their cost was higher because of all the free (paid for my ME) government money given out.

Unfortunately, even scholarships have fallen into the trap of going to the most economically challenged rather than being based on academic achievement and potential for actually finishing.

FDR called them insurance right up to the time the Supreme Court was getting ready to smack him down on them. They were only constitutional if they were TAXES. You don't have an account, you are entitled to nothing. What everyone pays is for the current crop of recipients.

This is ONE of the problems with obamacare. It was only deemed constitutional because when it got to the supreme court, the gov lawyer said it was a tax. Government has the right to tax us. THE PROBLEM IS THAT ALL TAXES MUST ORIGINATE IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. OBAMACARE DID NOT; IT ORIGINATED FROM THE DEMOCRAT SENATE AND WAS BACK DOORED.

  25. I was going to post my 2 cents in another post you had done, and I know I'll probably get some flack for this but who cares...

I couldn't agree more with what's going on. With taxes going up and because of Obama's new healthcare thing, my income for our soon-to-be family of 4, has gone down drasitcally.

The new healthcare crap makes it so that I, a part-time employee, cannot work more than 29 HOURS per week. Why? Because a lot of part-time people elsewhere in this grand country, felt they were getting the short end of the stick (i.e.- working full time hours but only getting part time benefits). That I can understand. I really do understand.

But because of this, the 29 hours is a max; next week's schedule has me down for 20.5 hours. Never mind that I haven't opted-in for the medical insurance just so we can put our portion of food on the table. And this family of 4 is already living with my mother in a 2 bedroom apartment to try and help each other with the cost of bills and living.

Not to mention, plain wrong.

#3 "Roads, Internet, Libraries, Fire, Police, Medical, Parks, Grants and on and on…" ...Which items of this laundry list are specifically called for in the Constitution? Oh, never mind. I found one that you mentioned later. It is the MILITARY!

#4 Welfare is not considered an entitlement? Really?!? What about union/gov. contracts? Did I really buy that 'insurance policy' to assist me in later years?!? How about all the corporate kickbacks given as favors for political contributions? Are these the 'grants' that you speak about us being so 'privileged' with? Is the gov now owning car companies another of my many 'privileges'?

Your precious Obama has increased out DEBT (another 'privilege', maybe?) by +6 trillion since he took office. It is not because he can't raise taxes enough to pay for it.

All he did was make the student loan industry government workers and promised that YOU will now payback others' student loans. This is revamping?

      10) Cut the fat in Medicare
All he did was make Medicare unacceptable to more doctors. He just sent that money over to his new healthcare program. He just used those cuts to fatten up HIS favored Obamacare. A slight of hand that saves you nothing.

Do you want our partks private? I'm sure our communal natural resources will take a huge hit (logging, mining, etc.)if these are sold off to private entities.

    3. Anonymous, did you miss the part about roads being paid for with fuel taxes?

Parks need to be paid for with user fees, not subsidized with MY tax dollars. Each item should be priced accordingly. There is no guarantee in the US Constitution that everything will be made affordable for everyone. Now that i write that, I see that it smacks of communism to do so.

  30. Democrats want to borrow more to pay for excessive spending.
Republicans want to increase taxes to avoid borrowing more to pay for excessive spending.
Neither party is looking seriously at cutting the excessive spending (in some part because it's been locked by previous administrations).

  31. Patrice, after the election, I lost all hope for our country. I envision the statue of Liberty with a huge sign with a quote from Dante (abandon all hope, ye who enter here). As for a revolution, it probably will not happen. Too many Americans will fold the minute it starts to cost them something, i.e money, property, freedom (internment) or life. See Germany under Hitler. Remember he repeatedly had laws changed so that everything he did was legal under German law.

In my opinion, only prayer and repentence can save us. People with a strong faith do not expect to be dependent on anything but God and the sweat of their brow.

  32. Has anyone heard the 2 cent grape story? You know the one where the day the $25 WIC cards come out and the recipient takes it to the grocery store and buys one grape for 2 cents and gets $24.98 in cash for the remainder of the card. I was shocked the first time I saw it. I looked at the cashier as she was ringing up my order and she said that was the third one this morning. The cashier said they get really mad when the grape rings up as 3 cents.

It is not about politics. It is not about charity. It is shear stupidity. Lines are being drawn and the seeds of the next revolution are being planted. You are either willing to take care of yourself and your family and tithe to your church or you are not. Where do you fall?

Like the guns, it's not a need. It's a principle thing for us. However, the government does NOT NEED anymore money. They have not been a good steward of the thousands I have sent them every year. Obama and his thug democrats have just expanded the budget, yet again.

Stimulating the economy is MY job, with MY money. Charity is MY job, with MY money. If I were president, Egypt would not be getting a gift of new tanks and fighter jets. Your statements reflect your opinion that it was okay to raise taxes on those making $200,000. It's not about what we can live on! What we spend and what we save are not your business! It's what the government spends that matters. It wasn't okay to raise anyones taxes, it would have been far better to close loop holes; that is what the republicans wanted to do. read 'the golden age' by mark twain, second edition. read his foreword.
when the economics prof outlined a similar scenario to that in which we find ourselves he asked what would happen. i immediately raised my fist and yelled, ' revolution!!!'.
he then informed us that revolution only occurs by means of a strong middle class.
i was amazed.we think of the downtrodden as those who rise up.. but they are too busy trying to get the next mouthful for their kids or piece of cloth for warmth. they are living hard-scrabble.

and that is why the middle class is being gutted, as i see it. there will be very little opposition when the time comes.

one reason we have the Congress we have is that it requires a personality who will not only put up with malarkey ,but may even enjoy it, to run for office. if we could have engineers and CPA's in government it would be great but they have a low threshhold for BS, and so will probably never run.
how far would they get with the political machine set up as it is?

    God help them!

fasting and praying can cast out those which are otherwise irremovable, and that is what we are called to do, all the while trying to be wise as serpents.

ignore the politicians. they are all out of the same mold whatever they say. pray for the civil authorities, as St. Paul says so that we may live in peace.

perhaps God will allow us to save some of our nation.

one thing--gov't. is bigger because our forefathers could not see what we take for granted every day--some of them might call it magic!! we need more regulation in some few areas because of new poison chemicals, new medical research ( if the FDA would do its true job), international commerce and shipping to name a few areas. not to mention international relations.

the Constitution is as near a perfect document as man could ever make. we need to stick to it like glue.

regulation should never have the force of law and all states have states' rights and should reject everything from the feds that is illegal and by that i mean unconstitutional at its core.

the supreme court is to have neither 'liberal' nor '

    conservative' but only 'disinterested'.

where we live now we see up close the welfare -and- drug- abuse- for- generations phenomenon, as well as all the members of the unwed mothers brigade--out in force on nice days from their beautiful, fully- subsidized housing estate not too far from our abode-- there are no jobs but they are not educated and probably don't want to be and a job would cut into the food stamps and medical and housing benefits.

the kids in kindergarten, i'm told, sleep on the floor in closets while their whoring drug mothers carry on all night. the nanny state is needed for these kids. they are harmed before birth by their mothers' habits as well as neglected after birth.

if they get breakfast ,lunch, dinner and a bed for the night at school i am all for it.
it used to anger me that they got all those meals at taxpayers' expense. then i spent a day in an elementary school and it was an eye-opener!!!

one of the elementary schools has a jail room and a full-time policeman! elementary school!! and they need the cop!!

is there a way to save some of these little ones from their horrible birthright while trying to turn the nation around?

    i hope so.

  37. Do you really believe that most people enjoy being on food stamps, unemployment and Medicade? I don't...

Sure....there are a few people that mentally will never get off these programs....but then comes a moral question as to what we should do with THEM. Most people WANT prosperity for themselves.

The problem.....I mean the ONLY problem with this government is that they need to take the money out of politics. We need a "do over" and we need it fast.

You are right. Even our supreme court judges and many state and federal judges have caved to corruption and bribery......but the last thing that we should do is take away programs that are helping people during this troubled time.

I do not believe that a true Christian actually believes that drying up the less fortunate in the hopes that they will just blow away is the answer....at least not a Christian that sleeps well at night.

But this is what is happening in the mindset of those who are only interested in taking care of themselves... spouting the dogma that they think supports this behavior.

This problem seems almost too big to fix....but we need to take one step at a time in truth and moral conviction. It is the only means we have to the answer. BJ

    1. Okay, I need to say something:

Just because one is less fortunate, does not mean they are HELPLESS. The system we currently have is making it easier to become dependent, and I see it EVERYWHERE where I live. Just in the last ten years alone, I've seen a huge shift in the kind of people who live around me, not that it was great before that. Those programs are just making the problem worse. Its not just a few mentally crazy people taking advantage (as much as I don't like what they're doing, please don't insult their intelligence), its huge swaths of cities that are doing it, on purpose. Ever heard of a bunch of teenage girls talking about getting pregnant ON PURPOSE when they're 16 so they can get money from the government? I have, and my sister who works for the local police department sees this as a troubling trend and that's just the tip of the ice burg of what she's exposed to EVERYDAY. She deals with the lowlifes you constantly shower your pity on. I don't see anything Christian about that.

Oh, and being a Christian doesn't mean you are required to help everyone. Use wise discernment to determine who should benefit from your charity, because believe me, there are a lot of people out there who will take advantage of your version of 'Christian' charity so they can keep avoiding work or to satisfy an addiction. I refuse to enable people like that. Remember the if your hand offends thee, cut it off line? Well, it offends me that mine and my father's hard earned money is STOLEN from the government for programs none of us approved of and have any increase in our income become an excuse to take more from us. This FALSE charity is the kind that keeps people in poverty. Both Jesus Christ AND Buddah teach this. They understood the dependent mentality is easy to create when you just give stuff away, even if the person is down on his luck. There might be a reason for that. I've ran into plenty of people who use that line or something similar to sucker you out of your money.

As for those who actually need help, where are their friends, family, and neighbors? You know, the ones that actually KNOW the particulars of their situation? What about private charities? Though one needs to be careful with these too as some also contribute to the problem, which is why there are only certain ones I give to even when I have nearly nothing myself.

I don't wish these people will just 'blow away', I wish for these people to wake up and realize the one they should be relying on is themselves and not languish, hoping someone will pick them up when the vast majority of them are perfectly capable if they would just do the work. I've had people coming up in the parking lot of the grocery store and ask me for money to buy something to eat while never bothering to look at the sacks full of groceries I just bought. That tells me right there WHY they are poor. Its an important lesson that is sadly lost on my generation (I'm in the under 35 crowd). Being charitable no matter the circumstance is NOT good but is capable of sowing the seeds of evil. We don't wind up with 3rd and 4th generation welfare families from being stingy, doncha know? Time to put an end to this failed experiment and let people use their own judgement from now on. Who knows? They might discover their neighbors! They can watch your back far better than any overreaching government can.

    4. The poor will always be with us. Gov does not do anything to eliminate poverty. It rewards bad choices. The gov programs have only worked to increase poverty; how is that helping?

People can CHOOSE to stay in school and do their best. They can put off their animal urge to have sex and make babies out of wedlock. They can marry after getting educated and then bring children into this world. Doing these things will eliminate MOST poverty in the USA.

I've been poor. Gov. did not get me out of that situation. Hard work and dedication on MY PART did. I was often cold and hungry. Guess what, neither killed me; they motivated me. The majority of the "poor" in this nation have television and suffer from obesity related health issues. What are they doing without that is a true NEED?

Your compassion is fake because you treat the poor like PERPETUAL CHILDREN that need to be totally taken care of. The liberal programs have created multi-generations of learned poverty. How compassionate is that? It's sinful. I don't want to support programs that destroy the family structure and responsibility of MEN toward THEIR family. That's what the liberals have done. Made men marginal by telling women they don't need a man, uncle sugardaddy will support you and all the bad choices you made; children suffered from absent fathers and then those children grew up and created another generation of children without fathers. Each generation farther removed from NORMAL, rightfully angry, and feeling more entitled.
No amount of "aid" will get many of these people out of poverty; no amount of aid will make them happy. They are hungry for something uncle sugardaddy can't give them; he took it away when he started handing out checks to unmarried mothers. FAMILY.

And if the day comes that I need help, I don't plan on any from your beloved uncle sugardaddy. Help comes from my family, and they know they can come here if they need help.

That is where HELP for the poor comes from.

    5. So quote BJ: "For what it's worth, I used to be a staunch Republican. The right and the NRA had me so tied up in knots with fear thinking that the left was going to take my guns away that it forced me to do some in depth research."

And now that the Left is actually forcing registration in New York, and talking about Confiscation in other places, just exactly where was the NRA wrong?

Also quoting BJ: "Since they took all progressive radio off the air waves where I am (see what the right wing media can do?)"

Another red herring - Can you name one conservative talk radio show that literally "took" the progressive radio off the air? No, you can't. Progressive radio fails to gain or maintain an audience. I happen to think that this is because progressives only need to turn on the CBS/ABC/NBC/CNN/MSNBC nightly news to see their progressive beliefs confirmed, so the audience base just isn't there. However, just because Air America can't sell their hatred and whacked-out theories to the average American doesn't mean they were "taken" off the air. They failed as a business model, and went under. It happens all the time, not just in talk radio but in music and sports broadcasting as well. Right-wing media had nothing to do with it, unless you mean that in a "progressive talk radio is so piss-poor that they can't scrape together enough advertising money to stay in operation while Conservative media has no problem doing that" sort of way.

In one paragraph you've practically got your bias dripping out like corrosive acid all over the comment thread. But yeah, go right ahead and tell me how fair and balanced your opinions are. I think the worst part of it all is that you probably believe the tripe you're trying to peddle. And because you actually guzzled the kool-aide and believe your own tripe, actual logic and facts just ain't gonna penetrate your brain pan.

  44. To Anonymous above and his/her "more FEAR!" commment:

When you see Greece on the news that's us in 7-10 years. As for what to do about the entitlement class, I don't know. As far as I can tell we just keep doing what we're doing until the whole house of cards comes crashing down. We can't run this nation on white liberal guilt much longer because the Chinese don't have any white liberal guilt. As for me, my wife, and my daughter, we're putting the house up for sale this year and moving to the Amish country. I don't want to be here in Philadelphia when the EBT cards get cut off.

    2. That's what my husband and I did exactly a year ago, sold our house in Sacramento and moved to a rural area. We're now renting but feel much more secure if the power fails and EBT cards stop working. It wasn't easy but we did it and I encourage you to do the same. No regrets at all. And when we buy again it will be more than a couple days' walk from the nearest city.

  47. B.J, I think your criticism is misplaced. I've never seen a post by Patrice or comment on her posts that waxes nostalgic for the good ole days of the GW Bush presidency. They don't believe in giving more power to multinational corporations. They don't believe in America fighting endless wars in Third World hellholes. They don't define freedom and liberty as a big screen TV, an SUV in the garage and a McMansion full of cheap Chinese-made crap. Most everyone who posts here is libertarian. They realize the system is broken. There are still plenty of people out there who think the American Dream is being fat, arrogant, ignorant and living beyond your means. Patrice Lewis and her blog readers ain't those people.

    1. Thank you for your constructive comment and observation.

It is only when I’m forced to get down in the weeds with certain individuals who continue to want to play the blame game and make Obama out to be the Antichrist that my hackles come up. We can disagree……but the man is our president and deserves the respect of the office.

I am fully aware of the giant propaganda machine that exists in today’s society. I see Fox news repeatedly spewing misinformation…(like when Hilary was asked about forces going into Turkey from Rand Paul. That misinformation was created by Glenn Beck and was soaked up into Fox news bullet points around the world till it morphed into some twisted kind of truth….of which it was not.) Doesn’t anyone do their due diligence anymore?

With all due respect to “those people out there who think the American dream is being fat and ignorant”…..I think we tend to underestimate most people when we put them into these demeaning categories. We are all more alike than you think.

I agree that government is too big and needs some HUGE changes….but to get into this high and mighty state of thinking that only WE can make better choices than anyone else is only feeding into the Propaganda frenzy that has become the fodder for Fox news. Divide and conquer? This is where we as individuals need to come together.

When I see Walmart exploiting their workers so that they can not make a decent living and are forced into food stamps and government assistance working two jobs…..who picks up that tab? Who pockets the profits?......These are the “Welfare Queens” (to coin a phrase from Reagan) who I am concerned with. BJ

  48. I was self-employed for 3 years but incorporated last year. It's supposed to save us some money. I'm not sure yet. It's certainly increased the paperwork.

I do know ... that as the sole employee of the company I run, I must pay unemployment tax on myself. And not just at the state level! The Federal level too.

So ... does that mean ... if I lay myself off ... I can collect benefits?

    Just kidding about collecting :)
