Rest in piece, Big Ed

I just received the sad news this morning that Ed Farabaugh has passed away.

His name will probably not mean much to many people, but Ed -- affectionately known as "Big Ed" -- was for many years the official and later the unofficial proofreader and copy editor for WND. He had a most remarkable eagle eye -- the ability to spot a "misteak," as he termed it, from a mile away. He caught countless embarrassments in my WND columns.

Two years ago he found my blog and became a faithful reader. True to his nature and still practicing his eagle eye, he sent an email whenever he noticed a misteak on my blog. He was always full of gentle and affectionate humor, and his emails were always welcome.

WND put up a touching tribute here.

The last email I received from him was on March 2. It saddens me that Big Ed's emails will never again grace my inbox. It seems the latter part of his life was spent bedridden and in poor health, but his gentleness and humor are the traits his friends remember.

I never met him in person, but he had the amazing ability to reach out and touch so many people. May you rest in piece, Big Ed. Say hi to the Big Fella for me.

Sorry to learn you lost a friend. Sometimes people you never really meet in person can have a profound influence on your life. Just a quick E-mail or a phone call can make all the difference in the world! (I hope he is at peace and will still be looking over your shoulder for any misteaks).

  3. I am sorry you lost such a good friend. Particularly one that was such a good influence. Good influences are so rare these days.

  4. Something about this article makes me hungry for a rib-eye; medium-rare. Can't quite put my finger on it....
