If you recall (here), we've needed a stock pond for quite some time. You might say this pond is our Christmas present to ourselves. It's been an exciting morning, watching it being created out of nothing!
Right now the trackhoe operator is digging through a lot of clay. He's dug many stock ponds and is confident (as is Don) that it will hold water without needing a layer of Bentonite in it, though we'll confirm that when the hole is finished.
More tonight or tomorrow, but I just wanted to update everyone that our pond is being dug!
Hurray! Yippee!! Cool!!! I don't know about Northern Idaho, but California is going through a period of drought right now. We really need some rain and snow. If I had a farm, I'd sure be thankful to have a farm pond right about now.
ReplyDeleteHaving a pond on your farm is a very smart improvement. Glad that the clay layer is there to perhaps save you the expense of lining it.
Now let's all pray that we get some precipitation in the West, after your pond is finished.

I'd love to send you some of that 6-8 inches of rain that we had in the Houston area the other day, but we needed it real bad here. On the flip side my rain barrels are full!!!!!

Then sell the dirt that was removed to make the hole to fill someone else's unwanted hole! Nobody loses!

ReplyDeleteA great addition to your homestead! I would recommend keeping at least some of your dirt if you haven't committed to giving it all to your neighbour. It sure handly to have around if you find you need to fill a hole or level some spot.
