Happy Pi Day

Happy Pi Day!

Pi, as you know, is the mathematical ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

While pi is a constant, it's also infinite.

My kids get a kick out of listening to The Pi Song.

For convenience pi is usually shortened to 3.14, hence Pi Day -- March 14 -- get it? Get it?

And of course, this year is special because it brings pi to the next two decimal places: 3.1415 (March 14, 2015). Way cool, eh?

Come to find out -- no surprise, I suppose -- that there's a website dedicated to Pi Day.

Yeah I know, that's what I get for growing up in a family of nerds...

  1. Any special Pi Day plans?

By the way, if anyone has one, I could really use a great shepherd's pie recipe!

  2. Thanks for a really cool posting! Being a nerd is a good thing.
I had never heard the song, quite captivating. Also loved the Pi pie and the simple illustration for the geometrically challenged.

  5. Happy Pi Day! We had our quiche (egg pie...close enough for us) at 9:26:53 this morning. We're doing pot pies for dinner...and of course dessert pie. We made pies to take to the neighbors too. Mmmm...I love Pi Day.

  8. Since the number should be rounded off to 3.1416, next year will actually have the Pi day. I don't think any mathematicians came up with this.
