Extraordinary photo

Here's an extraordinary photo: Earth, Venus, and Jupiter -- as seen from Mars.

Just look... and marvel.

Update: Looks like the pic is a fake. Well, it's still a pretty spiffy concept.

  3. Hi, Patrice,
I've been an amateur astronomer since I was 9 or 10 years old (almost 60 years) and I have seen many instances where we have what they call "planets on parade." Mars, Venus, Jupiter and even sometimes Saturn all lined up across the sky. Pretty darn neat! As for this picture being real, there appears to be a bit of a dust-cloud layer in the sky, and on Mars, even with its thin atmosphere, that would probably block our sight of the planets. (Dust storms can be HUGE on the "Red Planet"!) That doesn't mean a "planets on parade" can't happen on Mars! It's certainly possible. Someone at one of the many observatories around the country would know if the major (and brightest) planets were lined up as seen from Mars. I try to always check things out first before I forward the e-mail stories and pictures I get. So many of them are photo-shopped fakes! --Fred in AZ
