Sorry for the silence

I haven't been posting much this week, and this is why.

Rather unusually for a February, we're slammed with tankard orders. We shipped off a 100 piece order last week, we have to get this current production run of 100 shipped by this upcoming Monday, and then we immediately plunge into yet another production run to finish some outstanding orders. Yikes, where's our quiet snow-filled winter?

To make things more challenging, the "polar vortex" that's been hitting the rest of the country has finally swung our way. Nighttime temps are plunging well below zero, and today's high was a modest 10F.

Poor Don has been working in the shop in this bitterly cold weather. He packs his gloves and boots with warmers and stands in front of the diesel heater and stays moderately unfrozen. But we'll be glad when this cold snap ends too.

I'll be back when we're a bit less busy! Thanks for your patience!

  2. Maybe you can find an old wood stove at a thrift store for Don!

  3. Funny how the news does not refer to our cold snap as being in the polar vortex .. but it's cold, cold. Kept our youngest home from school today. -8 with wind chill of -22.

  4. I wont say that I did not miss you because I did. I can see that it was for a good cause, congratulations on all the orders! I also read your canning comment over at survival blog and although I did not know that you had written it, until the end, I was agreeing with all that was written because I have and have read your 3 lessons on canning. hose are very well written and were quite informative! Thanks for making them available to us.

  5. What a blessing... New fallen snow and orders for your tankards. Praying for snow here in our valley as we have had an extremely dry winter. Hoping the deep freeze won't last to much longer for you.
    Have a blessed day.

  6. Morning Patrice,
Say, when I saw the picture of the tankards, my first impression was wow, look at the cute wooden purses Don has started making. Maybe an idea for expanding your business, make little wooden purses that open with hinges? I predict you would sell a ton at the craft fair.

  8. I love your tankards and so do my children. I am, however VERY reluctant to drink from them because they are beautiful and I'm afraid the seams would split.

    1. No, they're MEANT to be used! Honest, we have tankards that have been in use twenty years. Just make sure you hand-wash and never put it in the microwave.

  9. I have missed your insights and I have to admit I was worried..things happen! Glad your just busy. I saw this heat option in my Lehmans catalog and wondered if it would help with your shop heating? I have worked in building heated with this type of stove and they are fat heat!

be safe and warm...Looking forward to your return!

  10. It's uber cold here in Wisconsin as well. Given the fact that it takes a LOT of money to heat rather than to cool our buildings, we look forward to "global warming". Idaho is the most beautiful state. You are blessed to live there.

  12. It may be obnoxiously cold but unexpected orders for one's product is always a blessing...

  14. Way to go with all the orders, that's awesome! Love the sunrise/sunset photo with this post. May I use it as a basis for a drawing?

    1. It's a sunset, and of course you can use it. In fact, send me a photo of your drawing and I'll post it.

If you scroll down the list of keywords on the left-hand side of the blog until you come to "sunrise" and "sunset," you'll see additional photos you might like.

    2. Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the other photos as well. It could be quite a while before I would use the pic. I'm just always on the look out for interesting shots.
