Rockin' out to John Denver

I found this amusing.

Wisconsin man cited for 'rocking out' to John Denver

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Police responding to a complaint of loud noise have cited a Fond du Lac man for "rocking out" to the music of John Denver. A cop who responded to the man's apartment last week could hear Denver's music through the door.

The officer pounded on the door but the man didn't answer. Finally the officer found out the man's name from a neighbor and called to him, bringing the man to the door.

When asked why he had the music so loud, the man said he was "rocking out."

The Reporter newspaper in Fond du Lac reported that the 42-year-old was cited for unnecessary loud noise. The ticket could result in a fine of about $210.

The late Denver is known for such hits as "Rocky Mountain High" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

The reason I found this so funny is I'm a huge John Denver fan - I have been since I was fourteen - and I've been known (ahem) to "rock out" a few times myself. Or at least belt out his songs at the top of my lungs while doing housework.

  1. I thought I was the only John Denver fan left!!! My special needs boy used to only quiet for Annie's song. I'm glad to hear you like his music too.(p.s. thanks again for those garlic planting tips) Deborah.

  2. Me too. I love John Denver and it is such a shame he left us while so young and with so much more to do...

  4. Every night I put my kids to sleep with John Denver music when they were small; especially the last album of his released, the one about trains. I can't recall the title because my daughter always called it "Rocky Baby Choo Choo". My son would pray for him every night after he died. (We had kind of a theology rift, my son and I, he was only four at the time so I didn't argue the point.)

  5. I also grew up as a John Denver fan. One of my favorite songs was "Saturday Night in Toledo, Ohio;" I found it quite ironic that I ended up living within 20 minutes of Toledo! When I lived there, I played in the Toledo Concert Band which performed summer concerts at the Toledo Zoo.

A couple of years ago, one of our guest artists was Randy Sparkes, the writer of that song. I was so excited since I loved it! However, there were a few native Toledoans that were truly offended, even after all of those years. I found it quite humorous.

Great columns as always - thank you!

  7. I am Katie J's dad and I raise all 7 of my kids on John Denver. I have at least a dozen CDs and whenever I need a lift I play them all, but ONLY loud enuf that the whole neighborhood of 175 houses can hear... well maybe not that loud...

My next mission is to make sure John Denver music is on when my 23 grandchildren are over....Gotta carry out this great tradition...
