I stumbled on this short video clip and clicked on it merely because the caption read, "You can't watch this without smiling." Literally I had no idea what to expect. Cute cat videos? America's funniest home videos? What?
Well, one thing is certain. I didn't expect this. All I can say is ... wow. Just wow. Just absolute flippin' WOW.
Soak it in. Listen to it several times in a row. I get chills every time.
I don't get it. What am I missing? I like music and I like classical music but this literally did nothing for me. Was there an inside joke? Should I have been looking for something in the background? What?
ReplyDeleteI agree it was "mislabeled" insofar as there was nothing funny about it. Instead, I found it magnificent.

Yeah... I got nothing either.

DeleteNo seriously! I need more than check your pulse. I get emotional at the national anthem and actually tear up when they play taps. I go to my happy place when I hear Mozart or Chopin. I enjoy music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. But this seemed like nothing special and as I was trying to figure out what I was missing I concluded that it is a joke and the endless repeat of the same meaningless word convinced me of that except that I couldn't get what the joke was and was hoping someone could explain the joke. Maybe the word meant something funny or it related to one of those movies I haven't seen. So far no one can explain it. It can't be the music because even the worst classical music is more interesting than this. It can't be the words or meaning because it is mostly one meaningless word. So I replayed it looking at the background to see if some one was doing comedy but no. Then I though maybe the musicians are the joke and scrutinized them but they all look pretty non-descript. Again it can't be the music because if that came on while I was driving my car I would change the station. So at this point I think my leg is being pulled and everyone is laughing at me because I haven't figured out the joke.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, very cool! I've been listening to songs by Pub Choir and Choir, Choir, Choir on YouTube. They are not professional singers, but leave me with the same happy feeling this music gave me.
ReplyDeleteDavid Byrne's performance with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus of "One Fine Day" is another song that gives me joy!
Oh I love choral music, and with an orchestra is truly magnificent. Thanks for sharing. Some of my best memories of high school are from singing in the choir and Girl's Ensemble. These days I lead a regional church choir twice a year at conferences and feel the same joy!
ReplyDeleteThat particular piece is so uplifting!
The joy does make you smile. It was not plugged as funny.
ReplyDeleteSmile? Not so much. Moved to tears as it reminded me of participating in choirs that performed many magnificent performances like this in my lifetime? Yes. Filled again with hope for the promise that I have an eternity to do so again in the Lord's Kingdom? Absolutely. God bless you for sharing this jewel with us.
ReplyDelete"Most of the lyrics of my pieces are actually taken from old texts," Tin says. "So in the case of Waloyo Yamoni, this was actually an old Lango rainmaking prayer."
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Patrice for sharing this !!!! I did smile right to the very end and wanting to hear more.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! and listened to it over and over again. Thanks for sharing. Jenny
ReplyDeleteWonderfully enjoyable. When I understood that it was a call (prayer) for rain, it made it even more so. Their voices are magnificent. As I can read music, I really liked the screen music to follow along with. Thanks a bunch for the link.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the comment about smiling is because of a irresistible reaction to exhilarating music (if you are a lover of powerful music). It's not a reference to something funny to be found in the video at all. I did smile because of the exuberance and skill of these wonderful musicians!
