When my kids were young I would occasionally take myself to lunch while the kiddos were in school. Just me and a good book, a nice sandwich and some people watching.
On one of these blissfully kid-free lunches the waiter, a young man of about 20, asked "You have nothing to do but read a book?" I told him it was a good book. I was glad to have it. He looked disgusted and said "So wait for the movie to come out. There's got to be better things to do than read."
I guess that's why at 20 I was working on a Masters degree and he was waiting tables.
I hope you don't mind I copied that! Of course I agree!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I always check out people's bookshelves to see what they're into. We have books in nearly every room.
