In like a lamb, out like a lion

Forget the old adage that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. We've had the reverse this year.

In fact, March started out rather nice and I was able to get a bit of early garden work done.

I also started some seeds in the house: tomato, cayenne peppers, Anaheim peppers, basil.

Some have started to sprout.

(I have a feeling it's going to be a heavy gardening year.)

But then the great celestial powerhouse of weather reversed itself, and we're getting a late blast of winter. We've had wind. Rain. Hail. Sleet. And of course, snow.

Spring is around the corner -- the daffodils are doing their best to tell us that.

But it sure ain't here yet.

  1. Did your daughter get the nanny job?

    1. No, nanny jobs have absolutely dried up. Seattle was a ghost town for the time being with Washington on strict lockdown, and now Idaho is on lockdown as well. She's with us for now until things ease up -- and we're very glad to have her here, safe and sound.

  2. Spring isn't quite here yet either. Temps in the 40s are nice, but I'm over the cold, cold rain. Supposed to get better next week. I love your gardening posts!

  3. Most of my daffodils have bloomed and are spent. One variety is blooming and will be spent this next week.

  5. This financial hit is a wake up call. It isn't time for those who've prepared to say, "I told you
so, but to answer questions and give advise with an overabundance of grace. People are hurting and
asking and we have an opportunity to share. FYI, dave ramsey is putting out great content and offering free materials to do just that.

    1. The grasshoppers amused themselves in frivolous pursuits. They ignored my gentle advice for a decade and continue to this day. Yet I'm suppose to feel sorry for their feeling? No Honey, I'll feel sorry and pray for the young children who depended on them for protection and will now suffer.

  6. I am almost afraid for the rest of the year, given the way it has gone so far.

All of our daughters are home, including the two from college. It has actually been quite nice having them at home. We have had some very nice quality family time.
