Bad language, funny song

Doubtless you've heard about two brothers, Matt and Noah Colvin, who had been "filling a U-Haul truck with thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packs of antibacterial wipes," according to the New York Time. The brothers admitted to cleaning out stores in multiple states with the intent to resell the cleaning supplies on Amazon at inflated prices.

Amazon dropped the hammer on them and the state attorney general sent a cease-and-desist letter, leaving the men with 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer. Chastened, the brothers decided to donate their inventory.

Being creative, two self-described "good ol' boys" from Tennessee decided to immortalize this attempted business endeavor through music. Warning: Really really bad language, but I laughed until I cried.

  1. To be honest I am more worried by our government deciding after the fact that something that is 100% legal is no illegal and you will be punished for it. Yeah in retrospect the guys who bought up all the supplies to resell them at inflated prices were jerks. But they did not commit a crime except if we decide to redefine legal actions as crime.
Let me give you an example: My local grocery outlet had a deal on candy bars at $0.10 apiece. I literally bought 4 boxes of them. I went back the next day to buy some more and grocery outlet had raised the price by about 200%. Did they break the law??? Is that price gouging??? Did I do something illegal by buying the candy cheap??? I ate it all by the way, didn't sell any of it.

IMHO the responsibility should be on the retailer. Not a "legal" responsibility but a moral one. If a customer comes into your store and buys all the hand sanitizer or all the toilet paper you should simply tell them that you will only sell them a reasonable amount because you have regular customers who depend on that store for necessities. No need for the federal government or the state to get involved just simple common sense.

By the way just a month ago Wheeler Dealer had Ghirardelli chocolates on sale and is was a good deal ($2.99 for a 7 ounce bag). I bought 60 bags of chocolate. Did I do something wrong??? There was far more left on the shelf than what I bought.

To me this is much ado about nothing.

    1. I completely agree with you and Idaho Farm Guy. Ultimately the brothers would willingly agree to sell the goods to buyers willing to pay at a mutually agreed to price.

The principle of conservatism is called Laissez-faire free-market capitalism. Americans once believed in it. Sadly it has been indoctrinated out of them by government schools.

  2. Last I checked nobody put a gun to anybody's head to force them to buy the stuff at some over-inflated price on Amazon. I also have a problem with the heavy-handed government response.

  3. Hey, at least they're good at harmony. I've heard worse. If they'd sold it for only double the price they'd have likely been ok. But they tried charging tooooo much and went way beyond people's limit of tolerance for greed.

  4. "Price gouging" is a stupid, irrational, ignorant, leftist (but I repeat myself) concept that completely ignores the law of supply & demand, and the functioning of the economy in the real world. There would be TP and handsanitizer on the shelves is the sellers were allowed to raise the prices to the point that people wouldn't buy ridiculous amounts in order to hoard it, and the sellers would have enough money to order more than usual, then lower the price due to the increased supply, and everyone who wanted it could buy it them. The song cracked me up.

  5. Those complaining failed to think about the convenience of ordering it on Amazon. Those boys had an investment in time and fuel running all over to get it. I have purchased no hand sanitizer and 1 package of my normal sized TP. If no one would pay their price or just use soap and water they would have dropped their prices. Natokadn

  6. Personally I don't understand why everyone is in such a huff about these people. My opinion is why not exploit this overblown hysteria when you can? Buying up all the toilet paper is just lame and inconsiderate but all the rest is nonsense. If it was life saving medication I could see getting angry but why not make a buck off stupid gullible consumers when they think hand sanitizer is going to "protect" them from this.
