Shaky but back...

Holy cow, I don't know what it was the Lewis family had, but it sure knocked us for a loop. It started with Older Daughter, then Younger Daughter, than myself, then our houseguest GG, then finally Don. Poor GG got it the worst and spent one whole night upchucking. The rest of us escaped that fate, luckily.

We've been gradually regaining our strength and going about our chores very slowly. Don's even tried to get some work done in the shop (since we have orders due) and can only manage about half an hour at a time. Our minds have been fuzzy and illogical and sometimes we even speak gibberish while trying to say something sane. Very strange.

The neighbors have all been so kind, calling for health updates and with many offers to do chores or cook meals. We haven't taken them up on anything because (a) we don't want to expose them to what we had, and (b) none of us have much of an appetite so meals aren't necessary. As I told a friend yesterday, right now we sound like a Greek chorus of the walking dead -- deep hoarse chest-rattling coughs, violent sneezes, etc. Wheee!

I'll try to get my brain to cooperate and get something intelligent on the blog in the near future. Meanwhile, thank you all for your prayers and well-wishes.

  2. Holy krikey! That's a nasty bug.
I hope you're all doing better very soon, and that you're drinking copious amounts of water to help your cells fight back.
I guess if there's an up side it would be that the Lewis Family will no doubt now have the highest antibody levels in their county.

    Be well.

  4. Be careful with that heavy chest coughing stuff. Last year, both the husband and I caught some sort of crud. I was down for a full six weeks, three trips to the med center. The husband ended up with pneumonia.

  6. You guys take care of yourselves! I went through a cold at Christmas and am just now getting over it. I really got tired of sleeping in a chair and coughing my guts out. I did not have the zinc, garlic and vitamin C but I do now. I have tried my best to stay out of town as I do not want the flu that is around, the cold was bad enough.

  8. Sorry you have all been so sick. I highly recommend black elderberries. Boil in small amount of water for 15 minutes, crush then strain liquid. Cool. Sweeten with honey. Take up to 2 tablespoons a day of this syrup. This has knocked out horrible flu and colds in my family. We now grow our own elderberry bushes just for this reason! I think Sambucol? is the very pricy version you can buy in the store but homemade is way better.

  9. Seems there has been a nasty bug going all around the country for the past 2 months. My husband and I got it in Florida. Then, when we visited his family in Boise, at Christmas, they were already sick with it. Luckily we had recovered so we could help out a bit. Hacking and coughing is the hallmark of it.

  11. Patrice,

Bugs, virus', and the flu have been taking it' s course across many states. We've even had a school close for a couple of days because so many children were sick. Glad to hear y'all are starting to feel better.

  13. Chicken Lady and I are just getting over Type A flu which grandson brought home a couple weeks ago. I had 3 days of fever in excess of 102 degress. This is one you definitely would wish on your worst enemy. Luckily Tamiflu helped shorten the duration and took the last dose yesterday. The last time I had the flu I was 26 years old. Now at 60 years old I thought I had bought the farm being dang near completely incapacitated. I'm glad I took the flu shot but sure wish it hadn't missed this strain.

  14. Hello,
we read your site all the time and wish to tell you what we have done for many years now, we live in rural NM, high country ( not desert, at 7700 ft.) have forest and we have wild Black Elderberries and we pick them and make tinctures for us and when the flu and cold season start we take a teaspoon every morning and since we have done this we don’t get colds or flu, we might get a sniffle or two, but NOT sick also if Ii we feel that something does seem to be out of sync. we take a product that is called ( Old Indian cherry bark syrup ) it takes really nasty but it works! we have several people who now do as we do and they don’t get sick anymore. I hope this helps! glad to share with good people! also just FYI we are in late fifties and early 60 age group.
