Christmas morning. Headed for church. Invisible patch of black ice. Ricocheted all around the road as Don tried to regain control. Spun 180 degrees and introduced the car to the embankment.
We emerged from the car, shaky and bruised but otherwise unhurt. Looks like we're in the market for another car (this was the car we purchased six years ago from Union Gospel Motors in Spokane). Astonishingly, the vehicle still drove. The very kind sheriff's deputy who assisted us followed us almost all the way home to make sure we made it.
We gathered up all the vehicle debris and stuffed it in the back of the car so it wouldn't litter the roadside.
Comically, on the way home, the car notified us that the washer fluid was low.
That's because the container had been punctured in the accident.
We hit the embankment so hard, pine needles and a pine cone got embedded between the tire and the wheel.
And my Bible got a bit battered.
So, while we never did make it to church, we returned home beyond grateful for our Christmas blessings. Wear your seat belts, folks. They save lives.
SO GLAD YOU ARE OK
ReplyDeleteWOW.
ReplyDeleteGlad You're ok.
Me, too! The car is just “stuff”… Hope the rest of your day went better.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are both okay.
ReplyDeleteMy heart dropped when I saw that first photo of your mangled SUV on the side of the road. Thanks be to God that you’re ok. Pain in the pocketbook but that will recover.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been absent on the commenting for the last few months due to our own early “Merry Christmas to Us” scenario, which came to completion 2 days ago. Living in Florida, we got walloped again with some house damage from this year’s hurricane and another storm. Contractors have been taking up most all of our time but I wanted to be sure to wish a Merry Christmas to the Lewis family and your readers.
We are finally moving, back to familiar surroundings, the up north woods, with snow/ice in the winter, and all that entails. Yay! Your writing, and by way of that, your family, has been a blessing to us for a few years now. Thank you, and God bless.
Your Christmas Miracle!
ReplyDeleteScary stuff! Sorry this has happened but so glad to hear that you're all ok. I pray that you're blessed with the peace and joy that Christmas brings despite this unnerving event. All the best with finding another car.
ReplyDeleteOk, sorry but just looking at it another way. Did you check the weather report this morning? Is the location of your church more holy than your house? Judging from your posts as a very religious couple I think not. If you talk to the lord from your location I'm sure he can hear you. Merry Christmas.

DeleteAmen!
Deletedude, don't try to blame them for an unfortunate true accident. Also, people go to church for fellowship, etc, not just to pray.
DeleteGlad that you are okay-that was a frightening crash I know. Check out a used Subaru. They are great cars.
ReplyDeleteI understand that shaky feeling as we were involved in a hit and run. It took me two days to get over it. I called in the tag number and direction, and they caught him in two minutes. Car is still battered. Glad you were not hurt!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're ok and that you were able to drive away from it--better an embankment than a dropoff.
ReplyDeletefirst... glad you are o.k.
ReplyDeletesecond... appears the damage is cosmetic. before shopping for a different vehicil, shop for repair parts.
the wife rear ended another car last month and did dsamage much like what your photos show. the cop, the tow truck driver, and the insurance rep all said the car was totaled. i am no auto body repair mechanic, just a shade tree mechanic who can watch and follow u-tube how to videos. it took me about 12 hours time invested, and about $1500 in parts from the local junk yard and on line auto suppliers to putthat total wreck back on the road. fact is, i paid more for shipping than for the parts.
the most expensive item was a new battery, which was going to be replaced soon anyway.
good luck and god speed.
Glad you and Don are okay.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that there was no serious damage to you.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are okay and no injuries
ReplyDeleteTis the season of miracles!
ReplyDeleteBless you!
So grateful you are all safe! God Bless.
ReplyDeleteOh, WOW, I am thankful that you are safe and well. Praise God!
ReplyDeleteGod was watching over you.
