Vanity, thy name is ...

I was brushing my hair a few days ago, when I came away with this:

In case you're wondering, that's a looooong gray hair (resting on my computer mouse pad). I have long brown hair, and now some of it is long gray hair.

It's hard to argue. I mean, I'll be 60 years old on my next birthday. I may feel 40, but my brown hair is slowly and relentlessly turning less brown.

Vanity, thy name is  .......

  1. You are so lucky!!! I started turning grey at 16.. Finally having a child at 35 and another (surprise) child at 45. I have always been called a Grandmother by people who see me with my kids..! You will wear it beautifully !!

  2. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for you! I'm 58 and mine has not been all brown for a VERY long time. I'm embracing the old fashioned grandma look, even though I'm not a grandma yet! HA!

  4. Wow, 59 huh. My first was at 19 which coincides with the birth of number 1 child. Don't know if baby caused it, LOL.

  6. I as getting a lot of grey in my 20s. Moved to the country with good well water and my hair almost all turned back. And my skin became soft and smooth again instead of dry and flaky.
Most of the people I've known my age are now all white or grey headed, but mine is only about a third, maybe not that much.
I think what goes into our bodies determines a lot of health outcomes.
Flouride and chlorine are horrible. Yes, they can sanitize the water, but they are directly responsible for many bad health results.
And when we eat out or eat things commercially canned it's probably in our food too.
You can get filters to remove the chemicals if you're on city water. I think I've seen filters for hoses too, in case you're a back yard gardener. Good clean water is the elixer of life.

  7. Just wait 'til it starts falling out. I'd settle for zebra striped hairs if they'd just stay firmly planted on my head.

  9. Proverbs 16:31
Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.

I've been gray since my 40s, I'm 54 now. My parents went gray early, I knew what to expect. I don't mind, though, but I sometimes miss my the dark brown of my youth.

  10. I spotted first grey hairs in my 30's, but now that I"m 68, I'd have to search for it to find it for you.I dunno, I can't take credit, except I wonder if my lifestyle has kept me young. Pretty sure that's the case, as I live in a community with many 3 & 4th generation farmers, and we are known for our very many healthy, and active 80 & 90 yr olds (who grew up on farms and never learned how to be lazy). I'm now 68 and just rejoice that I am as healthy and able and young...as I am. I chop and carry wood, dig ditches, saddle horses...haul water...I remember turning 60 and how little it meant to me...but now that I'm 68, I am very grateful to be so up and at'em at my age, and 'knock on wood' !!

  11. I was so proud to get my first gray hair at 29 - now, if I didn't color it, it would be a dirty gray, which I'm not ready for. (I let all the coloring wash out about 11 years ago and that's how it came out.) Today a lady who I think was in her early 70s thought I was 35. Yesssss!!!

  13. My wife of 33 years embraced the march of time a little over a year ago. I hope she realizes that she’s even more beautiful than the day she took my breath away as she walked down the aisle. I probably caused a lot of the shining silver halo she’s earned over the years so I might be biased. Love is not blind, it allows us to see more clearly, and every year it has become more clear how blessed I am.

  14. Enjoy it!!

I’m 44 and have grown quite a crop of grays these last couple years. I like the way they stand out in the brown.

    Yeah. I’m vain.
