Thank a veteran today

Today is Veteran's Day. Please remember to thank a vet for your freedom.

We can't forget the brave men and women who have served our country.

Nor will we forget the ones who won't be coming back.

Thank you to our veterans.

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

For an amazing photo tour of Ardennes American Cemetery in Liege, Belgium, where Don's uncle is buried, see this post.

  1. Veterans' Day is November 11th, not the 13th.

  2. Thank you to your DD for her service, as well as to you and Don as parents. Thank you to everyone who follows this blog that has or is serving. I loved the poem and have shared this....

  3. Same as 2016: picture 2 is still a picture of a Russian vet on what looks like the Moscow subway.

So how do I know this is the Moscow subway the? The map behind the Russian veteran is in sufficiently good detail that I can even pick out the Number 1 Red line on it.

Also, the door says "ne prislonyat'sya", or "KEEP AWAY" in Russian.

    Maybe next year ...
