The Big Six-Oh

Holy cow, today is my 60th birthday.

We don't celebrate birthdays in our family, so we're not doing anything special: pouring concrete footings for Older Daughter's porch, more organizing in the barn as we select which items will get sold at a yard sale, and cleaning house. Hey, it's all gotta get done.

But you know what? I don't feel 60. I feel much younger.

Still, at this age I've acquired what could best be described as "history." The other day I got an early-birthday phone call from one of my dear friends from college, Kelly. She and her husband are retired and living in Arizona, and her children are far-flung and living their own lives. We caught up with each other and marveled over the fact that we've known each other since we were eighteen. Over four decades of friendship! We both agreed (since she's the same age) that this is a pretty nice age to be.

So I'm off to finish drinking my tea. Then we'll take the dog for a walk, and I'll help Don pour some concrete footings. Ta ta!

  2. I have 10 years on ya, kid, but I know what you mean about not feeling your age. The tent fabric may be old and tattered, the carpet worn out, and the tent pole bent and showing a few cracks, but the person living inside the tent is still 22 years of age. Happy birthday, and thank God for His promise of eternity with Him.

  5. Happy birthday, dear Patrice!

I'm pushing closer to 50 this year than ever before and, same as you, I don't feeeeeel it.

So far, the older I get the more contented I feel. The Lord and I have been through a lot together and I know, as deeply as I know anything, that He is good and He is perfectly in control of all things. I can completely rest in Him, work really hard and have joy all at the same time!

Life is good. God is good. Life is a joyful adventure when you're following Him! :-)

  10. Many thanks to your dear parents for conceiving and giving birth to you. What a blessing you have been to my life, for the 8 months, or so, I have known of you and your writings. May we, for many more years, continue to give thanks to your folks (and God) for placing you on this earth.

  18. Happy birthday! I know what you mean... I don't feel my age either, or ever really even consider my age at all til I remember that something happened 30 or 40 years ago, and it seems strange that it could be that long! Or-- til I pass by a mirror.
