A sweet gesture

The Lewis family has been down with a croupy cough all week. We've chosen to be unsocial since we're reluctant to pass around to anyone else whatever "creeping crud" we have.

We're also planning on holing up for the next few days on account of the weather, which promises to be nasty.

Based on this anticipated snow dump, the neighborhood potluck got canceled, and anyone who had the option of telecommuting for the day chose that option -- including a neighbor who drives to Spokane every day for her job.

This neighbor just called us (Thursday evening) and asked if she could stop by for a moment. Don warned her we were sick, but she said that was fine.

A few minutes later she drove up, and I stepped out on the porch to welcome her. To my surprise, she handed me a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

"I told myself, if I'm going to be snowed in tomorrow, I want a doughnut," she explained, and thoughtfully picked some up for us as well.

I mean, how sweet (in a literal as well as figurative sense) is that?

This shows the kinds of neighbors with which we're blessed.

  1. What a good neighbor! Last time I got sick my neighbor stopped by with a 12 pack of Michelob. Is that a great buddy or what?!!--ken

    2. Ken, they don't make Michelob anymore. I was cast adrift when that sad day happened. Not that I am a beer swish... Just miss the taste of a good domestic beer.

  3. My now neighbor told me about some land next to him that was for sale. He said that he wanted to choose his neighbor. I fell and broke my hip about 3 months ago and after calling 911 I told them to call my neighbor as he had a key to the house. They took me into the hospital and my neighbor followed as well as calling several other friends to tell them what had happened. That was about the 3rd time I had called him well after 11 PM for some medical emergency. When talking to him the other day I asked him if he wanted to revisit the neighbor that he had invited in to the neighborhood? He said that he was still happy with his choice!

  4. Our whole neighborhood (6 houses within 1/4 mile of each other, have had the coughing crud. Lasts about 2 weeks. I feel for your family. What a nice neighbor you have. As soon as I recovered everyone got chocolate chip cookies, since it's cold enough that the chocolate won't melt. We're in Idaho also and are expecting snowy weather for the next week or so. Oh well, it's been a pretty good winter so far. Haven't had to use the ATV snow ploy yet. Our driveway is about 300' long.
