God bless America, John Wayne style
Reader Stephen forwarded the most awesome video clip. It was filmed in 1970. Somehow I doubt it could be recreated today with the current crop in Hollywood.
I was intrigued to note that Tommy Smothers, who had just been fired from CBS a year before for pushing the boundaries of satire a bit too far, and who would have disagreed with the Duke on just about all of the issues of the day, was able to join in with him in this joint declaration of love for their country. Yes, Virginia, there was a time when Americans could disagree on some things and still stand shoulder to shoulder in loving the country we all shared. Those were the days, indeed.
One of my favorite videos, and I can say I remember them all back when entertainment was entertainment. I miss them all. God Bless America.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like that. Reliving my misspent youth!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteYes, he loved America so much he came up with excuse after excuse not to join up in WWII.
ReplyDeleteThat is not true. He had injuries from playing football. But nice try troll.MAGA!
DeleteYou're wrong. He kept coming up with stupid excuse after stupid excuse. Educate yourself.
DeleteAwesome video. I remember that country. God did bless it.

If you liked that, check this one out. The whole thing is good, but it gets fantastic at 1:55.

Imagine how Americans in 1956 viewed the future of their country.
ReplyDeleteLong video but just looking at random sections will take you back to this country's peak of promise.
