Ten Commandments? We don't need no stinkin' ten commandments...

What can I say? Words fail me. From this website and confirmed here.

Ted Turner does not like the Ten Commandments. Turner, founder of CNN, had this to say about the Decalogue when he addressed the National Press Association in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1988: “We’re living with outmoded rules. The rules we’re living under [are] the Ten Commandments, and I bet nobody here even pays much attention to ’em, because they are too old. When Moses went up on the mountain, there were no nuclear weapons, there was no poverty. Today, the Ten Commandments wouldn’t go over. Nobody around likes to be commanded.” Do you think Turner is familiar with the Ten Commandments, including the prohibitions against murder (sixth) and stealing (eighth)? Turner’s dismissal of the Ten Commandments led him to develop his own set of “new” commandments that he calls “Voluntary Initiatives”:

1. I promise to have love and respect for the planet earth and living things thereon, especially my fellow species—humankind.

2. I promise to treat all persons everywhere with dignity, respect, and friendliness.

3. I promise to have no more than two children, or no more than my nation suggests.

4. I promise to use my best efforts to save what is left of our natural world in its untouched state and to restore damaged or destroyed areas where practical.

5. I pledge to use as little nonrenewable resources as possible.

6. I pledge to use as little toxic chemicals, pesticides, and other poisons as possible and to work for their reduction by others.

7. I promise to contribute to those less fortunate than myself, to help them become self-sufficient and enjoy the benefits of a decent life, including clean air and water, adequate food and health care, housing, education, and individual rights.

8. I reject the use of force, in particular military force, and back United Nations arbitration of international disputes.

9. I support the total elimination of all nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons of mass destruction.

10. I support the United Nations and its efforts to collectively improve the conditions of the planet.

  1. Words fail me too.

If you knew what I have heard about the United Nations and all this sustainable nonsense, you would be even more speechless... or else would be full of rebuttals... What I learned I learned from this guy, Walter Veith. He's a retired professor and lecturer that has gone into great detail about this kind of thing and how it fits in with Bible prophecy. Very fascinating. You can watch most of his videos at http://www.amazingdiscoveries.tv. Especially the Total Onslaught and Rekindling the Reformation.

But yeah, he doesn't believe in the 10 Commandments, but also doesn't believe in weapons of mass destruction. And don't some of the Commandments describe what it means to treat each other with dignity and respect?

Okay, so words don't fail me so much... But I am still thoroughly appalled.

  2. I'm sorry, but this guy has topped himself. He is a blooming idiot. I hate that he is brating my air. Where, why and how do these idiots think that this country was founded? Certainly they have a distorted idea about this country.

  3. They sound good to me and much more relevant to the 21st. century. George Carlin breaks down the original version very effectively here:-

  4. Do you see the situation that has developed here? quedala would rather hear and believe the words of a dead and obviously disturbed man than the obvious word of God(the Bible). You will just have to run out the clock quedala and wing it from there. Good luck with that.

  5. George Carlin was a very funny comedian Lloyd. He didn't ask people to "believe" his words just to be amused by them. Do loosen up.

  6. Sadly this man is deluded.
Amazingly, despite his very public personality, he has achieved great material success in our culture/society.
Probably says more about the culture than it does about him.
How DO these people get as far as they do?
This is NOT a happy man.

  7. I think he is dead Noah. Sadly :(

I agree with you that he was probably not a happy man but he had a difficult childhood and a turbulent life. We should probably not begrudge him his material success. Especially if you are a christian who believes he is going to be judged in Heaven

  8. Well said quedula, I hope that nobody here is dumb enough to begruge a dead man the material success he rightfully acheaved preaching to a sad and somewhat unstable audience. I do not want to judge Carlin I am looking at the people who paid their hard earned money to hear him yammer. I am sorry for him, I honestly am.

  9. Ted forgot one: "I promise not to shoot any Invisible Pink Unicorns (other than the one already over my mantle)".

Just because he was successful doesn't make him wise. Too late, Ted will someday face the disappointment that all his philanthropy will have been for naught; it won't have bought him a single day in God's presence.

As further proof of his lack of wisdom; what's with fawning over the Usless Nitwits. I'd like to be informed of one, just one, major conflict that the Nitwits have averted. The UN and their blustering anti-Semitism is the single largest contributor to global warming.

As for George Carlin: He used to be funny, but he went out a bitter, venomous old goat. Compare his YouTube videos of then and 'now' and you'll see what I mean.

  10. I like the 'no more than 2 children' comment from someone who has 5 children!

  11. I'm sure he means no more than 2 children per wife. Otherwise it would be unfair to us females. Why should we be denied any children if the first wife has already had them?

Perhaps he also has in mind societies where polygamy is practised. :)

  15. never cared for ted turner or his ex jane and never will care for either...carlin was a comedian and very insightful but sad and angry,,still i enjoyed his humor...the UN is a joke, always has been-always will be unless it could truely be UNITED--not much of a chance it will happen now since it has not happened in the past---oh, and let the prophet ted live by his own standards...most monetarily rich people do even if they never attain true happiness
