Our price is not quite that high, but we've already begun talking about consolidating trips to town, even more than we already do. I thought I was better mentally prepared for all of this.
Cheapest we could get locally (Silicon Valley) $5.59/gallon. Saw several stations well above $6/gallon. I’ll bet if I went looking I could find a station that cracks $7/gallon. But, I can’t afford to be driving around. “Joy riding” isn’t.
It still amazes me that no matter how high the price of gas gets, people still have no problem filling up their huge SUV's, motor homes, boats, etc. and driving hundreds/thousands of miles to go on vacation. I just don't get it.
A good friend on Vancouver Island said yesterday it was $11 bucks a gallon there. And ferry prices increasing in 2 weeks. Everyone getting set for the big shutdown. Where I'm sat my laundry costs (cause my well went dry) increased 50% due to increase in Propane costs. Groceries which were running $51-53 per week now are $65 per week for the same groceries. Primarily due to increased energy cost for transportation. But we can always import oil from Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, because of course their oil is less toxic to environment and doesn't affect "climate change". Riiiiiggggghhhhttttt!!!!
In Southern Ca we are definitely feeling it. $5.69 a gallon at Costco for my last fill up. $80 to fill the tank in my car. Can't remember the last time I filled my truck. I give it $50 a visit as I try to limit my driving.
Here in NE Florida, the price as of a few hours ago was $4.49/gallon for the cheapest grade. Didn't even look at the diesel prices, ugh, going to have to fill up the tractor soon. I picked up another 25 lbs. of flour, sugar and and a couple of industrial-sized packages of yeast (I already have more flour in the freezer and sugar on the shelf) as well as salt and am processing vegetables as quickly as I can.
I went to Sam's and hardly got anything out of the ordinary (I routinely get extra sugar and flour around the holidays), got 4 lbs. of ground beef, some frozen salmon, some frozen cod (enough for two weeks' worth if we eat it once a week), a quart of half and half, some canned vegetable odds and ends and a $2.50 bagged salad, and I walked out with a less than overflowing cart and a bank account $304.00 lighter.
I'm glad we can still get livestock and chicken feed, but I wonder for how much longer?
$2.279 per liter this morning. Canadian, 4 liters per gallon. Ouch.

ReplyDeleteUgh. My car takes mid-grade. $40 gave me less than 10 gallons.
