This cartoon was created by the talented writer and artist Wren Everett and appeared in the Jan/Feb/Mar 2026 issue of Backwoods Home Magazine (and is reprinted with permission). I thought it was incredibly apropos, considering the storm that hit the eastern two-thirds of America this past weekend.

There's a lot to be said for a prepared lifestyle. Stay warm and safe, everyone!

I get so sick and tired of the idea that back in the day, all Americans were farming yokels*. Since my family immigrated in 1795, we've always lived in New York City. City people are just as if not more American than farmers. Of course, we don't count for the "backwoods" people. *And then we had to get the field crops in lest the locusts eat it and then Ma would bake the bread blah blah blah.
