The fall equinox has come and gone, and officially it's now fall.
However in the Lewis household, the true sign of fall is the Changing of the Sheets.
Yes, bedsheets. During the hot summer months, we strip the bed down to cotton sheets and a light blanket. But when fall comes, I wash the cotton sheets and hang them to dry...
...before packing them away for the next nine months. Then out come the flannel sheets.
Ah, bliss. Both Don and I sleep better in a snuggly bed with flannel sheets and more blankets.
Yep, the true sign of fall.
I love my flannelette sheets!! Although I live in the warm state of Qld, Australia, they go on the bed in winter here too.
ReplyDeleteAh yes....flannel. Close to the time when the flannel sheet replaces that cotton percale flat sheet. Then the fitted sheet gets replaced with flannel when it gets a bit colder and the flannel covered comforter makes its appearance........:)
ReplyDeleteNothing like the cozy warm comfort of flannel in the Fall!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh the most wonderful season of the year… Fall
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be one day around this time of the year that I take a stroll and notice a “Difference” in the Sun/Daylight, now I know to most it seems a little strange, but regardless I can see it. Maybe I’m just looking forward to this change or maybe something more.
The chill is in the air, the slight turning in the colors of the trees, Garden, Flowers, most all vegetation.
Of course, the darker/shorter days. But there is something about this magical time of the year, maybe it’s the turning of Father Time telling us “Ya better hurry, Winter is coming”.
So with the coming of Fall comes a whole new list of “To-Do Projects” As with the Changing of the Sheets, comes the Preparing and Maintenance of the Wood Stoves, the stocking of a few last cords of Firewood, the furnace filter check and testing, How about the winterizing of the Trucks/Cars and Camp-Trailers, have you started to put the Garden to bed till next Spring? AND OMG, Canning, Freezing, Dehydrating the Garden Bounty…….
Yes, the list is long indeed, so guess what????
Fall is here, time to Prepare in more than one way for sure.
Just remember, Winter is right around the corner for sure. Ready for those -20 degree days and 3 feet of Snow?
Flannel Sheets and Wool Blankets without a doubt.
TRUE MAKES MY HEAD SPIN
ReplyDeleteSpouse likes flannel, I like cotton. Wish they made half and half sheets. Flannel twists my night pants in a bind when I turn over.
