This is the season of grass. We have a remarkable variety of grasses here in our little valley.
And right now, they're all blooming.
(Notice the flies as pollinators.)
A close-up reveals some interesting structures. What are those little white feathery things? No idea. (Grass biology isn't my specialty.)
All these blooming grasses are beautiful...
...for those without allergies. For everyone else, it's a nightmare.
Do you have a lot of ticks, or are your winters sufficiently cold to keep that population down?
ReplyDeleteWe have barely any ticks, and those we do have are wood ticks, not deer ticks.

Blooming flowers are undoubtedly a beautiful sight to behold, but as you said, not for those allergic to pollen.
ReplyDeleteHere in the Four Corners, we have the beloved Juniper Tree, thousands if not literally millions of majestic trees. Some reaching 50-60 feet in height and 30-foot diameter. Now not necessarily a “Beautiful” tree, but it is indeed prolific to be sure.
When it blooms in the early Spring it REALLY blooms, I mean REALLY BLOOMS!
You think the National Debt is high? That ain’t nada compared to the Pollen Count on a single tree, when the wind, or even a slight breeze blows, these lovely trees cast off a cloud of pollen, and I do mean an orange-rust cloud, just one tree, now take the hundreds of trees on my place, and it’s astonishing to see.
Luckily I’m not reactive to the Pollen, but those that are, there are miserable to say the least, some can take a handful of drugs to counter the reactions, but others not so much.
But I digress, Nature has a way of rewarding us all with her beauty if we take the time to absorb the offerings she gives us all.
A common phrase…. “Life is short, take time to smell the Roses along the way”
DON’T miss the opportunity to live life along the way
Marshmallow leaf and Mullien leaf tincture can help with allergies. It does not work as fast as an OTC drug will but it works well for this 67 yo who has had pollen allergies since she was 7. So glad to be off of any OTC or Rx for allergies. God Bless you all!
ReplyDeleteSmooth Brome, Smooth Brome, Timothy, Orchard Grass, Orchard Grass...
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain.
Orchard Grass is my kryptonite. Walking through it raises a yellow cloud of pollen.
This year hasn't been so bad for me. I am taking generic Loratadine and generic "Nasacort" (both once-every-24-hours). I also take the generic version of Opcon-A eye-drops as-needed.
I hate taking drugs but the weeds in the garden don't stop growing even if I am Hors de combat due to grass pollen.
Another game-changer (other than the drugs) was to realize that 90% of my grief was due to one species: Orchard Grass. I can work with that.
