As Don and I adjust to our reduced-spending lifestyle after my job loss in February, I read a passage in Proverbs 30 this past week that hit like a ton of bricks:
"Two things I ask of you, Lord;
do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God."
That's what we have: Neither poverty nor riches. Who could ask for more? God is good.
I have always loved that scripture. That's where we find contentment in life. Knowing we have just what Jesus wants us to have, not too little and not too much, but just the right amount. Pure bliss.
ReplyDeleteI very rarely get direct feedback from God when I pray. An exception to that is when I asked Him "Should I stop buying lottery tickets?"
ReplyDeleteAs clear as a bell, I heard the words "Yes. Stop buying them" in my head.
Wondering if it was mental projection, I asked again and got the same, very clear answer.
I haven't bought a lottery ticket since.
I think God knows that I would falter on the missions he set before me if I had wealth. As it is, I am blessed with enough and am wealthy because I have a wonderful wife.
Off subject. Since reading that you are interested in the idea of self-publishing, you might want to contact one of my favorite blog authors. On his June 21st post he wrote about attending the Libertycon convention in Nashville where he and his wife led a discussion on self-publishing. He is a very interesting and helpful person who might give you ideas.

ReplyDeleteProfound, we are in the same boat, the Lord provides when I any unbugeted expense. We are quite content having neither poverty nor riches.
ReplyDeleteWhen in the world are people going to realize that "Wealth" true wealth has nothing to do with money?
ReplyDeleteA refreshing post for my early morning coffee.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder.
