We've had elk hanging around lately, always a wonderful thing to see.
While walking Mr. Darcy the other day, one hoof print was clear in the snow. I put my foot right next to it to compare sizes.
Now compare it to the hoof print of a deer, and the scale of size difference between the two species becomes obvious.
Trust me, elk are BIG.
you tell your insurance agent you hit a deer, he will give you a list of places to get repairs

for those of you who have never seen an elk live up close and personal, think, the biggest cow you have ever seen. now imagine running into it.....
Many, many years ago while on vacation at Jackson Hole, WY, my husband and I were driving back to our hotel from a fantastic dinner. He took a nap while I drove. It was dark and hard to see too much ahead on the winding mountain road so I was driving slowly. All of a sudden there appeared to be an elephant standing in the middle of the road. I actually thought I was hallucinating even though I had only 2 glasses of wine. After I was able to wake my husband he determined it to be an elk. Dang, that thing was like a wall! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteIn Yellowstone many years ago, a bison crossed the road in front of us; talk about big!

As a former military wife, I can remember stopping while a line of tanks crossed the road. I imagine elk and bison are somewhat like that.
