Birthday today

Today's my birthday! I'm 62 years old. For the record, I feel much younger. Surely I'm only 45 or so?

"Now you're officially a Social Security pensioner!" Don said, and he's right. I've already applied for Social Security benefits. Wild thought.

At any rate, today is just an ordinary day. I'm working my online job. Don's working in the shop. Older Daughter is working on tankards (though she promises to make a lunch "extra heavy" with broccoli, just for me. I adore broccoli).

My life is blessed.

    Happy Birthday🎈🎁
May you have a wonderful day at your home. Bet your daughter is creating a specialty meal that is your favorite for lunch time.
Age is only a number, it is what you feel, that is the important part of life.

  3. Happy Birthday Patrice. If you delay your benefits you’ll make an extra 8% per year you wait. I know it’s tempting but I waited till I turned seventy and it was a LOT more for me. I’m pretty frugal so it wasn’t that hard but the payoff was worth it. You don’t have to wait till your 70 but even till your 65 will make a huge difference.

  6. Happy Birthday! Definitely apply for those benefits. My husband took them this year at 62 and we're using it to pay bills, build our savings, and get things done around the house while we're still young and spry enough to do them! We thought about it and we're in favor of using it for us now as we never know what life has in store for us.

  14. Happy Birthday! My 62nd is in a couple months. I plan on starting ss then too. A good day at home with family is a good birthday present!

  15. I took SS at 63. I was in good health then and could enjoy some of the perks of retirement. I am approaching 80 now and can not even change a light bulb any more. Take it while you can still enjoy it and SS is still there!!

  18. Happy birthday. I, too took SS at 62. I actually did the break even math, which nobody ever seems to talk about, and it came out to 17 years before I start losing money. 79 years old! And even then it's not that much. Takes a long time to add up to very much. Plus, will it even be there by then and will it make much, or any difference in my life?

    1. No where else can you get 8% per year on your money. Trust me you should wait. Delayed gratification is underappreciated.

  20. Happy Birthday Patrice, I also took SS at 62, really helped out with the household, my husband waited till 65. Now we are 72 and he gets about 2x more than I do, but it was worth it. Also don't forget Medicare, the sooner you apply the cheaper it will be. We also took supplemental medical insurance, I did this right after my 65th birthday, my husband waited about 6 months before applying and he is at a higher rate than mine even though he almost never uses it, on the other hand I always have to use mine. Boy is he ticked.

  24. Happy (much) Belated Birthday, Patrice!

A friend of mine told me at his mother's funeral that a few days before she passed, she looked at him and said something akin to, 'Everyone sees me as a 77-year-old woman, but in my mind, I am still a 17-year-old girl'.
While I am a little older than you, that comment has really stuck with me. It is just how I feel. Blessings to you and yours.
