Thank you for that opinion

Hmm. I just received an interesting comment on a post I put up a couple weeks ago called "The only way to survive 2023." The subject of the post – and the only subject of the post, I might add – is the importance of frugality when it comes to weathering an economic storm.

This morning I received a non sequitur comment as follows (spelling, grammar, syntax, and profanity intact):

No Patrice b*tch only you and your relious Cult are the parasite a drain a virus to our society what the goal of b*tch like you and conservative propaganda Cult is to force there views on others most normal Americans understand women's right to het body is her alone just like marrying who two consenting adults is no onds business

Okay then. What this has to do with frugality is anyone's guess. However the more closely I read this, the more amused I became.

There is the possibility English is not this person's first language, in which case the quality of writing is understandable (I would butcher any attempt to express my opinion in French or Tagalog or Hindi or any other language).

However if this person is a native English speaker, then this comment is a powerful testament to the effects of public education, in both opinion and quality. Yes, I find myself more appalled at the utter inability to spell, punctuate, or comprehend basic syntax than I am about his/her thoughts on my religious or political suasions (which have nothing to do with frugality).

So ... to whomever this mysterious reader is, thank you for that opinion. Happy frugaling!

  3. To which post was she replying? I think she is not only fluent in English, but also overly excited and a poor typist who doesn't even care she is a poor typist.

  4. Born in the USA I had a strange upbringing to say the least. I believe that I learned French first, then Spanish in Mexico. I do not remember the French part but before age ten I had to learn English. I believe that this commentator was in such a froth that they were unable to to put a coherent thought on your comment section. They obviously do not have spell check or help with grammar on their computer, (best invention for foreign speakers ever). I have a hard time understanding why anyone can get so frothed over someones beliefs. You clearly state on this platform exactly what it is that you believe in. I do not think that this person had frugality on the mind but simply an ax to grind about your beliefs. Hope I write clearly, I have always had problems with grammar, which I hate, LOL. Love your site and read it daily it has been very helpful.

  5. I read the comment several times and still don't understand the point he/she was trying to get across to you. Please, Patrice, continue being a wonderful self-sufficient model to the rest of us and showing us through your actions, great conservative values. I wish I could do a little part of what you've accomplished... and that is why I read your site. Encouragement!!

  6. While it is entirely possible that this was a real person, we shouldn't rule out the possibility that there are AI bots who leave comments like that in order to intimidate the meek. It's a low-cost way to knock out low-hanging fruit.

    2. I was thinking that could be a possibility as well, and to make sure that I covered ALL pronouns would use the pronouns "It and Its" in any reference to....well, IT!

  7. oh dear. Even my dyslexic child can write better than that. Now I read posts by people that do not share my opinions and I refrain from comment. what I wonder is why this writer feels so threatened by you. If you are secure in your beliefs then those who don't share them are a sadness to you not a cause for anger....

  9. On a lighter note, one of my friends years ago who has passed on, had a Masters degree in something, probably communications since that was her field. So we were talking one night and she mentioned that she was retaking a basic English course. Now this was someone who had, in my opinion, the written and spoken word, down pat. So I wanted to know why. And she said she found it helpful to do that from time to time. She was working at a college and could audit classes for free. Looking back, I can clearly see why she was an excellent communicator. And wonderful Christian also I might add.
People who are excellent at something keep repeating the basics so that doing the "thing" they do so well is so engrained doing it correctly looks effortless. But it isn't effortless. They practice.

I often think of my friend and catch myself with mistakes in grammar and punctuation and it wouldn't be a bad idea to take a basic class in English again.
Don't worry about that person who wrote unhappy things too much. Many who are attracted to Christian life start out being all offended because something touched a hurt in their heart some way, and it hurt to be touched there. Sometimes that's how the Great Physician finds entrance.
Wounded souls lash out in all sorts of ways because they think those who have allowed Him to be Lord of their lives are faking it, and think they're better than the rest of the world. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In yielding to the Lord, such a tremendous burden is lifted. In fact, I find I personally need to repeat this often, because stuff always seems to keep creaping up that's best to just let go of.
I also have found that the company I keep will always tell on itself. If someone uses foul language, it's in my head clogging the positive. If someone prays with me, my life with God and man is strengthened and bears good fruit and wonderful blessings follow.
Now, I have to tell about yesterday's blessing.
My vehicle wouldn't start. I was getting frustrated over not being able to find someone to jump it off since I needed to run an important errand quickly. I was about to call my insurance company because that's covered, but as a last ditch effort, called someone several states away and asked for prayer about the situation. They prayed and HE answered.
Someone soon came and jumped the vehicle off and I took care of the errand in time. Then I took the vehicle to get a new battery because it had no reason to be dead. I don't fancy repeats. There was warranty left and the battery was FREE. But from the moment someone prayed with me, there was a release in my spirit and a good flow of events. Blessings!
So just in case it was a real person writing to Patrice, or any other readers who feel that way, there are people here not just praying for each other, but praying for you, other readers. That the transformative power of Jesus Christ fill your life to overflowing with blessings, and that your blessings overflow to bless others. Ask Him to come into your heart and fill you with His Holy Spirit. He will do it.

  10. Hi Patrice! The bigger issue isn't the grammar... it's the unhinged train of thought. Assuming any thought at all went into it, which I doubt. The lack of impulse control combined with absolute inability to think critically is the issue. Exactly as our "educational institutions" intend.

  12. I went back and read the whole post on which she commented and all the comments. I think the drain on society part was key. Maybe you are the problem with society and economics. Then, the person could not help herself and just went off on a tangent. I am sure it was a woman.
That person needs my outline I formulated for my GED classes on how to write an essay. She has no coherent thoughts which is no surprise to anyone here.

  13. That comment wasn't written by an English speaking human. It seems to have gone through an AI translator. The person typed in the message in his/her/its own language and that mish mosh is what came out. I can assure you they had no idea it contained so many errors. You have to be careful here. AI is invading our world and will probably be taking over soon. Good luck.

  14. Due to the profanity, I assume the writer is a native English speaker, but either completely mentally unhinged, or stoned out of his/her mind on drugs. Or both. In any case, the opinion expressed isn't worth a cow patty.

  18. If I may hazard a guess based on now very old and somewhat shameful experience, that sounds like one very injured, very angry, and very possibly very drunk American snowflake.

I empathize with these people. I also grew up familiar with a strain of Christianity I can only call militant and dominionist. They did not merely want to live their lives; they wanted to force everyone else to live their lives too, and believed they had a Divine Mandate to use military force to bring it about.

I’m glad that my grandparents taught me that that strain was not representative of all Baptists, all Protestants, or all Christians. I’m also thankful that Christ taught me that that strain of Christianity was not exclusively representative of Him.

Unfortunately, some folks didn’t get as lucky. They have my empathy, but the VERY close resemblance of their behavior to militant dominionism (I’d say all that differs is the nouns) exhausted any sympathy or tolerance I had for them long ago. They’re an equal, perhaps greater, threat.
