Yesterday evening, after a day of warm and humid sun and clear skies, things suddenly got cloudy. I looked out the window and saw this:
Hullo, where did this cloud drama come from?
I checked the weather and saw this dramatic alert:
Holy cow. Out of the blue. The satellite imagery confirmed it was just a single isolated storm cell, scudding along at a fast clip and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The storm entirely passed us by. We got not a single drop of rain or puff of wind. We braced ourselves for power outages, but didn't get those either.
The clouds did, however, provide us with a splendid sunset.
From the sounds of it, that was some cloud drama we were glad to miss.
Here in southern Illinois we had a pretty strong storm roll through in the middle of the night. A lot of thunder and lightning but I don't think the wind was bad. It's rained off and on all day. Everything is SO green.
ReplyDeleteI live south of you around White Bird Grade and saw the same cloud formation you did and it was a monster that grew out of nothing.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I am one of those 'blue' people - but only ONE blue. It is the deep blue of the afternoon sky in late October. I have never seen it replicated to that perfection. I decided it was my favorite color when I looked at the sky on a fall day in October about 50 years ago, and it was set against the coat on my Bay Gelding. He too was not just 'any' color bay. He was that Bay with the glowing copper sheen to his coat so few have. After 50 years of owning horses and more than 100 horses of many different colors, I have only had 2 with that color coat.
ReplyDeleteInterior colors? Lightly varnished wood, browns, tans, and yes - colors of nature. Example: Jackie-Clay Atkinson's home. :-)
