I was saddened today to learn that Dolly Parton has passed away.
I've always admired Dolly for her humor, her wit, and her generous heart. She never forgot her roots, and strove to improve the lives and economic opportunities of her home region by opening Dollywood, among much else.
Since her husband of sixty years passed away less than 18 months ago, I suspect Dolly just lost the heart to go on.
Rest in peace, Ms. Parton.
A friend of mine has a horrendously sick child (brittle bone disease). A few years ago she was in Vandy and a nurse stuck her head through the door and asked if she was up for a visitor. In came Dolly, by herself, just visiting sick children on her own. She stayed for half an hour chatting. What a lovely person. A national treasure.

ReplyDeleteIt can hit really hard and fast. One of my neighbors was gone 3 weeks after diagnosis. No horrible pain until the last few days, but it was too late to fight it. She and her family were spsred a lot of the horrors of the disease. They drew close with her and she was herself until having to start pain meds at the very end. They zonked her out.
You never know what's around the bend. The more love in your life the better.
I've always thought Dolly was about the best examples of how to live because she always wanted to bring joy to others.
She is singing in Heaven now.

She was a wonderful person. I know a few people who have randomly encountered her when they visited Dollywood, she was always willing to stop for a picture with her fans and to have some conversation. A big change from so many celebrities who live/vacation in the Sun Valley area; most of them are so rude and snooty acting like they own everything, never acknowledging a regular person, even the locals, so rude to staff working places. They all could learn something from Dolly. She truly was a national treasure.
