Grumbly hateful

In our current culture in which complaining seems to be the norm, someone snapped a photo of a church sign (I think in Arlington, Virginia) as follows:

The reason this sign caught my attention because of a few "grumbly hateful" people we've encountered recently. And the thing is, we've all had experiences with someone who is "grumbly hateful." It might be a "Karen" yelling at a teenage store clerk before demanding to speak to the manager. It might be someone who is ridiculously entitled and demanding free this or that. It might be someone exploding in anger for no discernible reason except (apparently) a desire to make everyone around them miserable. It could be someone blaming you for something that isn't even remotely your fault.

Do you know someone who is grumbly hateful? How about humbly grateful? Spill the tea.

  1. I have two. My Seventeen year old granddaughter who is autistic was named student of the month just the other day. My husband asked how did you get so smart. She answered it's because of my teacher who always listens and understands. Humbly grateful. And second, my fifteen year old granddaughter (who can be quite snarky) had a terrible fight with her brother. Her cousin took her side and said she unfortunately had him for a brother. She quickly corrected her and said she was grateful to have him for a brother. Even angry she was grateful.

  2. Where to even begin. But also...why give them more time than they've already taken, you know? Fight back where needed, absolutely - but knowing where that need is, vs just being hateful, is the trick.
Miss y'all. Glad to know you're still kickin'.
Saw a codpiece today that made me smile and think of that piece of salmon story you told me back on the peninsula.

  3. When my 3rd child (2nd son) got married he chose Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind" song for the mother son dance. It is a beautiful song. I felt honored he chose that song.

When my 5th (3rd son) and last child got married he chose Jordan Davis "Buy Dirt" song for the mother son dance. He knows how I feel about land.

I feel too many people feel "entitled" today. And people in general aren't grateful for what they do have.
