I would like to extend the warmest possible welcome to our newest advertiser, Tattler Reusable Canning Lids!
Yes, the Tattler folks. You guys remember how I became hooked on their lids last summer, and shortly thereafter I scraped together the funds to buy a lifetime supply of lids. That's how enthusiastic I am about these nifty inventions.
In other words, I was an extraordinarily happy customer long before we even considered them as advertisers.
To reiterate a little about the company's history, Tattler lids came about during the 1970's when the number of back-to-the-landers brought about a resurgence of interest in home canning. As a result there was a severe canning lid shortage across the country. Tattler responded to this crisis by coming up with a truly reusable lid. And it's BPA free, too!
The reason I'm such a fan is because to me, reusable canning lids are an essential preparedness tool. No matter how many disposable canning lids you have stored away, you will eventually run out. But with an adequate supply of Tattler lids, quite literally you never have to buy another lid in your life. How cool is that?
So I encourage anyone who does home canning to click on the ad we have listed on the right-hand side of this blog. Visit their webpage and read about this nifty product. They have wonderful customer service and will answer any questions you may have about their lids.
Welcome Tattler!
I've been pretty interested in getting some of these ever since you reviewed them on your website -- sounds like a great way to be prepared to can (basically) indefinitely with the least storage space.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about buying them in bulk here soon -- have any 'hooray-you're-a-new-advertiser' specials you can share? =D

It was your enthusiastic review you posted here that made me buy my tattler lids. I have yet to use them since they are out at our retirement place where we will be moving to this coming year. Figured I would order them this past summer while I was out there and save on shipping. Can't wait to use them after reading your review.
ReplyDeleteI can testify that Tattler lids are fantastic. I bought 3 dz. this last summer and they work great! I have only had one not seal, which is easy to figure out because they slide right off the jar if they didn't seal. I have used them in both a WB and PC. You have to re-tighten them when they come out of the canner. Sometimes the lids come out bulging a bit at the top, but they settle down. I am saving up money for some more, as well as some replacement rings as I have already lost one. All of mine are in current use- I just canned some meat yesterday, and used my 3 available lids, and filled in with regular lids. Thank you to Patrice and Enola (I think she test drove these lids, also) for finding these practical lids to use.
ReplyDeleteI ordered some right after you wrote about it last summer. I can't wait to use them. I want to save up, as well, and get a life time supply them too. Thank you for bringing them to our attention. What a great invention!
ReplyDeleteI ordered some to try based on your recommendation and have been very pleased with the results. I definitely plan on ordering in bulk once I get settled into a bigger place and have room for them!

I'm getting my first set as a Christmas present! Can't wait to use them :D
ReplyDeleteSanta ordered me 2 dozen regular mouth sets and 2 dozen wide mouth sets PLUS one box each of replacement lids during Lehman's free shipping day a few weeks ago. Add to that the Crown Berkey (yes, the biggest one) he is bringing me, I'd say I've been a VERY good girl this year!
ReplyDeleteHo Ho Ho!!!
This was the first thing I read about here, and have been intrigued with them since....Has anyone had them for 5 years, or opened canned goods (with those lids) older than a year? - I'm wondering about longevity, mostly......
ReplyDeleteI have been focusing a lot on prepping, which has brought to light some of the things that you can't produce yourself and can't stock up on enough. This was one of those things. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThis is a bit late, but I wonder if you may be able to help me out. I am
very interested in buying some Tattler lids but I want to be sure they are
the size I need. I am in NZ and I am not sure if the US mason jar
standard mouth diameters are the same as for our 'agee' jars. I have
emailed Tattler several times and asked them what jar mouth diameter
their lids are for, but to no avail! So I was wondering if you could
help me out. I know that their regular lids will be too small, but do
you have any of the 'wide mouth' size? If so, could you please tell me
the diameter of jars that they fit as exactly as you are able?
Hi Heather, did you ever got a reply about the tattler lids? did they fit the agee jars?
DeleteHi Heather,
DeleteDid you ever find the anser to your question about the tattler lids? do they fit agee jars?
Toby
Hi Heather:
ReplyDeleteThe Tattler folks have always been so prompt with customer service that the only thing I can imagine is they haven't receive your emails. I'm going to copy your question over into an email to their customer service guys, and direct them to your webpage and contact info. I'm not certain what kind of measurements are necessary and I would hate to give you incorrect information - far better to go to the source. Please stand by, I'll email the Tattler folks right away.
- Patrice
Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteTo answer Heather's question, I will provide the dimensions of the rubber, reusable rings which accompany the reusable lids. If the ring dimensions match the dimensions of your jar rims, you're in business.
ReplyDeleteWide Mouth - 2.88" inside diameter x 3.275" outside diameter
Regular - 2.325" inside diameter x 2.65" outside diameter
Hopefully this will help.
I have a small supply of jars with glass lids and rubber rings (the same system as Tatler, just without the plastic). They're beautiful and work wonderfully, but the jar mouths are a non-standard size and they've been out of production for decades, so I'm not sure where to get more. Do you know of standard-sized Tatler-style lids which use glass instead of plastic? I know about Weck jars, but the clamp system seems a little iffy.
ReplyDeleteI just bought 3 dozen lids with some extra rings for our storage. I'm anxious for our garden to start producing so I can start canning again. Last summer was my first experience with canning. I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy doing it, but I just love it. I enjoy cooking anyways, so spending some time canning was no big deal. I loved canning pickles and carrots from our garden. Although I only canned about 2 dozen pints, it was so fun and reassuring to watch the cans stack up in my pantry.
ReplyDeleteThis year, I am hoping to can 3-5 dozen of various vegetables from our garden, and then I want to find some farmers markets in our area and purchase in bulk some other fruits and veggies for the sole purpose of canning.
I'm still not so sure about canning meat, mostly because we can't seem to find it cheaply enough to buy enough at a time in order to can.
